This hike was incredible. I didn’t see a single other person. The views are great, the terrain is gorgeous, and the lake is beautiful. The solitude definitely helps.

Got there around 6 am and was the only person in the lot so I did get to enjoy the hike without seeing anyone else which was cool. However! This hike is pretty intense but for what feels like no payoff. For almost all of the hike you’re in a basic forest setting and that’s all you see. You’re teased with one view of the gorge before you head back into the forest and do about 1.5 more miles before the view opens up again. In my opinion there are hikes very close to here with MUCH better views that are less crowded, still a workout, and more rewarding.

So gorgeous with an easier hike than Hamilton and better views at the top. A good five miles of this hike is on equestrian trails which bothered me more than I thought it would. However once you get on the actual trail it’s truly gorgeous. The incline is pretty steady which makes it super doable. Very easy to get to and so close to Portland!

Definitely challenging trying to find the hike via the forest roads, and you definitely need a good car to get over those gravel road pot holes. The hike was absolutely gorgeous. Amazing views pretty much the whole way and beautiful wildflowers. Really challenging right off the bat but so worth it

Did 5/21 - unfortunately wasn’t able to do the whole loop. I took the counter clockwise way up via elk. Trail was very snowy! Not sure what I expected. Either way I made it up to the top but once I started my way down on the loop there was way too much snow. I tried to follow the faint tracks left in the snow but eventually my feet sunk in about a foot deep one too many times along with the stress of trying to stay on the trail so I turned around. Maybe wait a month or two for some more snow to melt? The views were gorgeous at the top though! And I saw one other hiker the whole time. Would love to do the loop by even the out and back was great. Definitely broke a sweat but not too challenging physically.
