I loved this hike because there's something for everyone...waterfalls in the beginning, then a little forested trail, then the intensity begins. It gets very steep and there's not much shade on this portion of the trail. I stopped to rest and drink many times. Then you get to Shirley Lake which is beautiful and serene. It is small so it gets crowded (I went on a holiday weekend and there were a lot of people). I thought it would be difficult to climb back down so I continued on the trail to the top of the mountain and took the free gondola ride back down.

For me this hike was more about the journey than the destination. The views while you're hiking are gorgeous. I actually tripped multiple times because I was looking around instead of at the trail. The lakes were just ok. I could only find two of the lakes and they are very wooded. There was only one place to access them for swimming and it was crowded with people.

This is not an easy hike but it's worth it. The serene beauty of the lakes will take your breath away. The hike is steep with over 1400 foot elevation gain. There are loose rocks and boulders you have to climb but the views are beautiful. It's 3 miles to the first lake which is gorgeous but pales in comparison to the second lake. The second lake is only 1/4 mile farther and offers great swimming.

This hike is awesome. It's easy and great to do with kids and dogs. Some of the tunnels get pretty dark so we used the flashlight on my phone. The tunnels are amazing and great for photographing. I really enjoyed looking at all the graffiti too. We went 4 miles, 2 in and 2 back, but it looked like you could go farther.
