Great taste of hiking in WNC for out-of-towners. Almost no elevation gain. Lots of marshes with beaver work (and a boardwalk that improves at each visit), and lots of rhododendron and mountain laurel jungle. Beautiful part of PNF.

Love this hike. Trace Ridge up to Beaverdam Overlook on the BRP has a few long ascents, but flattens out between them. Nice views from the overlook. Spencer Creek Trail coming down is great for picking up some speed. Hikers beware: much of the trail is very narrow and the area is packed full of bikers. I found myself jumping off to the side many a time.

Super convenient to Asheville in location. Heavily trafficked. Look for Biltmore in the distance when the trees are bare.

    Nice rhododendron tunnels.

Cold Mountain is a beast, but worth every tired step. Great views, interesting terrain and rock formations, and a 6K'+ summit. Allow ample time going up. Ramps cover the sides of the hollers in the springtime.

I love this hike. Just keep on climbing. Amazing 360-degree views of PNF from the top, including Looking Glass Rock, Mt. Hardy, Mt. Pisgah, and the Balsams. Easy to pick up some speed going down he back from the summit to Deep Gap. Like another reviewer said, the forest service road back is a little boring, but it didn't take anything away from the whole.

One of my favorite waterfalls in WNC. The trail is pretty gentle for the majority of the hike with a couple stream crossings and a mini scramble or two over a few rocks. From the base of Lower Falls to Upper Falls is tricky. Not to be hiked in wet weather. The falls themselves are gorgeous.

Tough climb up, but the view is totally worth the sweat. Don't go on a beautiful Saturday if you're looking for solitude, though. It's a favorite to many.

There's a lot of up on this one, but the stream the trail follows is pleasant and energizing. There are quite a few spots along the way with beautiful views of the surrounding ranges when the thick summer foliage isn't too dense. Nice campsite on the way to Walker's Knob, which is a perfect spot for lunch.
