Coming off El Prieto and Angeles Crest trail onto this trail seemed like a let down. This is more of an exposed section of trail with some overgrowth that actually gives a little shade. For runners, take in the early morning or late afternoon, less traffic. I turned on my Salsa and exercise music skipping most of the way down and getting a better workout than just jogging it or running it. I used it as a rest period attaching it to the Grabrielino Trail to the water falls . If you are looking for a rest period on a longer run, here it is....

Start early when tneSun comes up. You can find psrkinf and it's still cool. Bring a camel back for each. Water is the key. Nuts, raisins, twizzlers and power bars will do the trick. It took us three hours up and one hour down. Very invigorating! We are seasoned hikers. Only go as fast as you can. Don't forget to stop and look around, and appreciate the beauty that you see. Life is too short not to take it all in.

I run trails year round and started off with Eaton Canyon when I was a beginner. I use the trail now on my rest days, to maintain cardio. This is a nice easy trail, from the parking lot to the bridge. The trail however is exposed with little cover. Sand makes it slightly more difficult to walk on, but all is negotiable. Once past the bridge, there is canopy cover with a drop in temperature that makes it easy to pick up the pace. Don't get too crazy if your a beginner, since there are a series of small creek crossings with boulders large and small, that if you are not use to climbing could cause an ankle sprain. Take it easy.
The waterfall is great after a rain, and serves as the halfway mark on your journey. Sit a while, or do like me... dance around,,cool down and then race on back.
At a nice jogging pace back and forth, you can do this in 40-45 minutes. If you wish to leisurely walk double the time. This is marked as a moderately difficulty trail, but it really is dependent on your fitness level. Have fun out there, and if you ever see someone dancing away, up the trail, say hi.. Its Dr. Sonny
PS: No one on trail at 7am... few people on trail Monday through Friday 2pm-5pm. Its crazy busy Saturday and Sun after 10am

I've been running the Rose Bowl Loop for years and find that it is excellent for those days when you just want to take it easy and pace. Its relatively flat and requires no specific skills.
I would rank this loop as extremely easy to easy. A paced, no worries run can be completed in 40 -45 minutes. Great for those days when you missed your real training. A good warm up for the gym afterwards.
