Some information that I thought will be helpful -
Directions: Take 119 from boulder, take right at Sugarloaf road and take right into the dirt road when you see sign for "Betesso National preserve/Water treatment plan". Google maps - Set the destination to Betesso National Preserve and follow the above directions.

Trails: 2 trails - Lower - Canyon Trail, Upper- Benjamin Loop and there is a link road. We did Canyon trail. It is Easy-to-Moderate.

What I liked? - No bikes on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I went on saturday and it was quite peaceful and nice. Almost 70% of the trail is into the woods so it was shady and nice. There are some nice view points and seats available.

What I did not like? - Hikers please avoid any day other than wednesday or saturday. It becomes very difficult on the narrow areas to give way to bikers and horse riders.

I loved this trail. It is secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city life and quite peaceful and scenic. My best advice would be to get there as early as possible (before 9 AM ) because as the day goes by we saw a lot of people arriving and parking became a bit of a problem. Also who likes to hike when there is too much crowd ?

You can do it clock wise starting from Chavez trail and back to the Stapleton drive parking lot or counter clock wise starting from your right and coming back to the parking log through Chavez trail. We did the later and it is comparatively easier because when you go counter clock wise, you will cross most of the steep rocky part of the trail at the beginning down hill and when you get back to the trail at the end, it will be easy (not too easy though) . But if you want to go hard on your legs definitely try it clock wise.

    Have fun!!
