This hike has everything. Beautiful scenery, challenging grades with significant altitude and a spectacular reward at the summit. Trail was dry, sun was out and wind was minimal. Great conditions for a first time summiteer.

Awesome day hike with amazing views! Hiked it 4/6. Water at IG was enough for 2.5L hydration pack. Windy out on the point. Aggressive ravens and ground squirrels even out there. Between them and the wind you have to keep track of your snacks and trash.

Ditto Chris' report on trail conditions. I went in on Saturday 3-2 for a 1 nighter and got rain and wind to go with the existing mud and running water. Made for a slog-fest from the Frog Tanks intersection to the Ranch. Surprised by the number of downed trees! The sun came out and rain stopped in the late afternoon so I was treated to a dry camp along Reavis creek about a mile before the Ranch. Heading back to the TH on Sunday morning there was a little less running water on the trail but still several muddy spots and standing snow on the east side of Castle Dome but someone left a smiley face in the snow. Happy trails!

An epic journey to celebrate the two year anniversary of my double knee replacement! Two of my kids joined me for this 15 hour adventure which made it even better. I'll definitely do it again, preferrably earlier or later in the season. September is still pretty warm at PR (96F), and broken water lines on the NK added an extra challenge. Best 'audible' we called was to spend more time than planned at Phantom Ranch. Leaving there to head up at 3:00 pm provided welcome shade on the Bright Angel trail. A fabulous inner canyon sunset, mule deer feeding on the trail, and the last 4 miles under the stars were ample rewards for a long day's walk.

Very nice views and trail was easy to follow; even in the rain.
