Great simple paved trail. Good option for taking non-hikers on a hike in the Bay Area. The trail is always heavily trafficked. Tons of sun exposure, so wear sunscreen. Entire loop takes about an hour. If you visit on the weekend, there are plenty of free places to park on Stanford’s campus, assuming the trail-specific lot is full.

Amazing views. Definitely bring a camera. Heavily trafficked and lots of water crossings. There are branches to help you cross without getting wet, but you’ll have a lot more fun if you just accept that your feet will get wet. Full loop takes less than an hour.

Fun, simply trail with a lot of great photo opportunities. Look for some of the “off trail” paths, which are still well maintained but are less trafficked. There’s a bunch of cool formations hiding down these paths.

This trail has a lot of potential, but there are a bunch of drawbacks. I walked this in the clockwise direction: Davison, West Ridge, Friendship.

Davison has some great waterfalls. Very narrow and tall. It’s a little overgrown in places and I definitely ran into an elk cow that seemed to think walking down the trail was “getting too close”. I wasn’t charged, but it seemed to want to approach, which I didn’t take as a good sign. I just kept walking and hoped for the best.

West Ridge trail was a total mess. Lots of mud and cobwebs as well as overgrown plants all over the trail. I’d never take this trail again unless my life depended on it.

Friendship trail was great. Nice inclines and a lot of old growth forest. Trail was well maintained.

Plenty of great views on this short trail. Great spot for photography. Could be completed in about twenty minutes. It would be easy to link this to other nearby trails, like Patrick’s Point or the Lighthouse.

Easy trail area. Very photogenic. Easy to connect this trail with several other loops, allowing you to extend this hike easily to include Wedding Rock or even the Lighthouse. Good fit for families or someone with a photography hobby. Trail is not a demanding workout and is heavily trafficked.

The lake is amazing. Six stars for the scenery.

The trail had a weird culture, which made this a mixed bag. Near the bridge, there were a lot of obnoxious high school students on summer break. They sunbathe on the bridge so you have to walk around them. As you move toward the south end of the lake, there are a lot of campers, so it doesn’t feel like a private hike. It’s more like walking down a beach and looking for a place to sit.

It was an amazing waterfall and an easy pit stop on the way to McCloud or other Mt. Shasta sites. There’s a scramble at the end that takes you to the river. I’d recommend it, because there was no one else there. Moderately difficult creek crossing via rocks is required to get the full view of the river. They threw a tire down to make it easier.

I’d describe this as an easy hike. It was so stunning that I’m worried I won’t be wowed by Redwood National when I hike there tomorrow. Nicely shaded, gradual inclines, and so many alternative routes that you can sort of choose your own adventure. I definitely recommend downloading the map for this one. It’s easy to get lost, because none of the signs tell you how to get back to the parking lot.

Amazing area. Make sure to look for the off trail routes to private viewing of the falls. Main path is heavily trafficked, but if you continue southwest past the lower falls, there’s about a mile of trail along the river where I didn’t really see anyone.

Short, easy hike. About 30 minutes. Surprisingly empty on a Monday in June. I genuinely didn’t run into anyone else after I left the main Falls photo area. Nice surprise. Plenty of photo opportunities. The bridges are really well done.

This was a lot of fun. The entire trip was about 90 minutes at a fast walking pace. There’s a forest that smells like burnt wood, a sunny, rocky meadow terrain, and then a fantastic lake at the end.

No snow and the lake is not frozen as of 6/10/2019.

Fun, simple cave hike. Uneven ground would make it difficult for dogs or children. Not too muddy but your shoes will be a little dirty afterwards. I took this hike alone and it was a brief, terrifying three minute stroll through the cave. It’s dark, but you can probably get away with just your phone flashlight.

Entire hike was about fifteen minutes. It’s a fun roadside stop on the road between Manzanita Lake and Burney Falls.
