We hiked this trail on July 25th and loved it! Not many people on the trail, wildflowers were abundant, yet so were the flies, which we had some good laughs about. It took us about 1.5 hours up and 1 hour back. The last portion is a little steep but the views once you reach the lake are beautiful and well worth it!

We parked at least .5 miles away from the Hessie and 4th of July Trailhead juncture. We hiked to Lost Lake and also on the Woodland Lake Trail to the split with Devils Thumb Trail. Overall, it was a 10 mile round trip. Nice hike, good trail, wildflowers all over and the sound of the creek and falls added to it. Great day in the mountains!

This was my 3rd 14'er and probably the toughest one to date. Took me 8 hours round trip, but I'm a very slow hiker to begin with and since I was feeling tired the entire time, it made for an even longer trip. Either way, I'm glad I made it to the top. Was going to do Torrey's as well but I just didn't have it in me and needed to get off the mountain, before the storms rolled in, which they did, right as I was finishing.

Had a wonderful time bagging my 2nd 14'er on this trail yesterday! The location listed is incorrect. The trailhead is on Guanella Pass, which is just outside of Georgetown. It is a 7 mile round trip, class 2 trail with 2800 ft of elevation gain. We arrived at 7:15 am and it was packed. I agree with one of the other reviews; if you're looking for solitude on a 14'er, then this is not the one for you; or plan to do it on a weekday, once school is back in session. Either way, I had a great time and glad I was able to summit this peak.

Thoroughly enjoyed this hike! Lots of scenery, wildflowers, wildlife along the way. Would like to return, make it a weekend trip, camp at the lake and hike to the upper portion of the divide. Only thing I was prepared for and didn't enjoy was all the mosquitoes; will be prepared for that next time.

This was my 1st 14'er and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I'm hooked and I want more! We started on the Fairplay side, so it was at about 12K feet and above tree line, which was kind of strange. Excellent views all around at the top; especially the Leadville side. I'd totally recommend this hike to a 14'er beginner.

Hiked this trail this past Sunday, August 4th, along with the Blue Lake Trail as well. We had to park at Brainard Lake, since the TH parking lot was already full; get there early on the weekends. Very nice hike, except for there were a lot of mosquitos, so make sure you have something for that.

We started at Echo Lake which is at 10,597 ft and went to Chicago Lakes; there are 3 of them. The biggest one you see in the pictures is at 11,420 ft. We went all the way to the top one, which is estimated somewhere between 11,733 to 11,752 ft. Total estimated 8-9 mile hike. Started at 8:45am. Made it back to the car at 2:45. 30 minute stop for lunch at the top.

Thoroughly enjoyed the hike this morning! Started at the Lower Maxwell Trail Head and made it all the way to the falls and back. Two notable changes on the directions. 1 - The turn off of 73 is Brook Forest Road (not South). 2 - The trail head is on the left side of the road (not the right). Also, at the top, there is a pole, with black sharpie markings - since this is a 4 way split. We noticed, that the pole had been turned 1/4 of the way. Thankfully, there was writing on multiple sides and we were able to realize that it had been turned. The falls are still pretty solid, although they are starting to melt - should be an even nicer hike in a short while.

Hiked the lower portion of the trail and enjoyed the views of Boulder. Will revisit this one sometime soon and hike the higher elevations as well.

Pretty tough trail to hike in February, with some snow on the ground. But, it was an awesome workout and paid off with some very nice views once you reach the top.
