RedRusty Car reviewed Emmaline Lake Trail to Cirque Meadows

Late April hike with a heavy snow last week.... should have prepared better. Snow shoes would have been very handy from the mummy trail junction on up......

    Beautiful as always though.

April 7th: Loved this hike! An inch or two of snow the night before made for beautiful sights. The sun busted out through the fog and melted all the snow for the hike back down. Like others have mentioned bring extra water, you will need it to stay hydrated. Also like others have mentioned it is tricky to stay on the trail towards the top.

Certainly a challenging hike that makes you want to hit up the Mish or Vern's afterward for a refuel. I was sore for three days after making it to the summit and back. (Round trip took 5 hours but at least an hour was spent at the top soaking up the sun and views.)

Would rate as moderate not hard..... I did the hike in about 4 hrs with plenty of time to chill and take in the full sunset at the top before coming down and making it out of the park 6pm (when the gate closes).....

Will be doing this one again and again until I'm in better shape.

    11/18/17: Mills Lake Trail:

Challenging but rewarding; The weather was brutal but the views were amazing. I went on a very windy day and still had a blast. Snow up to my knees and we still saw people hiking their way up in just tennis shoes and sweatshirts. The temp with the windchill had to be in the single digits; I couldn't believe their determination.

    Will be back.

I will be coming back here for sure. The open space was a little tricky to find since I'm not super familiar with the area. The breeze felt just as good as the sunshine did but I could see how this would be a super hot hike in the summertime. Only ran into a few other people here and will be bringing the bike back to go farther on the other trails next time. We didn't see any rattlesnakes but we did see a coyote and some deer.

10/7/17: This is a nice, easy going hike that still gets your heart pumping if you want. Adjectives I would use to describe this trail would be wide, rocky, and diverse. You don't want to bring your tennis shoe wearing friend on this one. There was a large group of kids, I assume from a daycamp of sorts, that were fairly distracting. Their excited voices echoed no matter how far from them we tried to get. (Expect to see people) Fort Collins got some super early snow last week that was still hanging out in the area. Delightful spot to be on a warm fall day.

The day we went it was very windy when we got to the meadows. Knock you hat off make your eyes non-stop water style wind. It's a great hike though.

Definitely did not go the full distance listed on here..... Completed on 9/16/17. My legs were burning too much and drinking around the fire the night before didn't help my situation.

The aspens were just starting to change colors and the hike was difficult but fun. I think we made it about half way up the incline before you get to the crash site. Maybe next time I'll make it up or start from Brown Lake Trail instead.

Rode the bike from Shields to the Butterfly Woods. The sunset was pretty along with the deer I saw along the ridge. Will be going back again.

Great challenging hike.... Saw a handful of people definitely wouldn't say this was a crowded trail.

Took many breaks along the way so it was about three hours total round trip. Gorgous at the top. Will be doing this one again for sure.

It was very windy at the top so prepare for that. $6 parking was worth it to me.

Ditto what everyone else said: difficult but worth it.

Twas sad to see how much trash there was towards the top when you looked down over where the hand rail begins. There were a lot of people on the trail.

Also while we were up there someone dumped a bag of trail mix and left it. I did not like seeing that but it was awesome to see so many international people enjoying the trail. Knowing people came from across the planet to see this was awesome. Tourist attraction indeed. Spouting rock was worth the little jaunt up there....

Will come back again for this workout of a hike.

Would have been easy if I wasn't sore from doing Hanging Lake trail the day before..... Took the north side to the river and took the south side back to the parking lot. I don't think it really matters which you take because you have to go up eventually both ways.

It was a beautiful November day so the sun wasn't too hot but I could see how that could be an issue other times. Will be back for sure but will bring a picnic with me next time.

    Short and sweet....

One part of the trail had some stink around it. I wonder if this is just a seasonal smell or if it's always foul through that area...... Great views of the mountains especially with the reflection on the lake.

Bugs were abundant but not a nuisance.
