Not much shade, and yeah you can see/hear I-70, but I really like this trail! Nice if you’re looking for an easy walk, dogs and kids would probably find it enjoyable, and though I came in winter when the plants and trees are brown, and the wildlife isn’t active, it was pretty and peaceful. I’ll definitely come back again as it seems great for trail-running, too, and it’s not too far from Denver. Bring water/sunscreen/hat if you come.

Hiked from Gold Camp Road parking lot up past the notorious tunnel 3, there was a little bit of snow in spots, but totally negotiable. Easy hike with nice views of Colorado Springs.

Very cool! As far as actual hiking goes, it's pretty easy. There is ZERO shade, so hat/sunscreen/glasses/water. It was 85 degrees and breezy today (July 5), which was nice, but there's definitely potential for it to be scorching. If you want to do the full figure eight, from the main lot, my tip would be to go straight instead of turning right to the formations, keep left to do the entire grassy part, and loop back when you come to a choice of going to the formations or the other parking lot, saving the formations for last!

I had a little bit of a time limit, so I wasn't able to do the whole thing, but I walked out and back probably about 5 miles or so on the Travois trail. The wild flowers were poppin', and on the way back, I took the Evening Sun Loop and saw lots of blooming cacti, which I love. Some pretty good views, too, from what I saw. Not super strenuous, but there is very little shade, and since it was 98 degrees today, the sun was fairly intense at times. Bring LOTS of water, sunscreen, and a hat.

BEAUTIFUL. Went hiking there yesterday (April 22), and got a good mix of light snow and sun. Very scenic from start to finish, and really not difficult at all. The first half is very casual, the second half leading up to the lake is a fairly easy climb. On the way down, there were elk in the meadow VERY close to the trail. Definitely a new favorite for me!

Getting to the top of the mesa is a great warm-up, once you get to the top, it's very easy-going. Lots of paths to choose from, so even if you see a lot of people on the way up, because it's so spread out, you'll still have a nice, quiet time. No shade at all, so not a favorite for the middle of summer, but great for when it's cooler. Lots of grass and open space, great views of Golden and Denver, very peaceful.

Quick and easy hike if you don't have much time, or if you're with people who can't do a more strenuous hike, and very close to Denver. Trees provided lots of nice shade, so good for the summer time. I'm sure those leaves will be very pretty in the fall.

Great summer hike because of the wild flowers, and there is a nice mix of sun and shade so it's not too hot. Take the Tower Trail up to the picnic area that used to be a cabin, there are great views!

This is a great loop for summer, as the vast majority of the trail is nice and shady, and there are a lot of aspen trees, so I'm pretty sure it would also be very nice in the fall with all the colors. I didn't read the part about water crossings before going, but lucky for me, I was wearing waterproof hiking sandals, and it was 90 degrees when I went, so going through the water was great (I didn't bother to try to cross on the logs or branches, as my balance is awful, so I just waded). I'm not sure if it was a high-water day when I went, but I was glad I didn't take my dogs with me since my little dog wouldn't have been able to navigate the water crossings on his own (and my big dog is scared of rushing water). It looks great for medium or large dogs who enjoy the water, though. I'll agree with previous reviewers who said the signage isn't great, I definitely found myself off the trail a few times, so my advice is not to be fooled by anything just a little too overgrown to be the trail, because there are a few points where it's not that clear. This trail has a lot to offer, and is both easy in places, and challenging in others. It's a very pretty hike, as well, and I definitely recommend it!
