Lily Mott reviewed Stevens Trail East

Mountain miles are not as a crow flies. 8 miles to Iowa hill is 20 minutes min. driving 25 mph and 10mph around the sharp switchbacks. The town is very intimate with its residence being more dogs than people you are greeted with tail wags not hand waves. (not joking) Also this towns mayor is infact a dog.

THE TRAIL HEAD: LOCATED behind the market and is clearly marked with a large sign. Most likely you will be greeted by dogs and they will guide you down the hill to the river. (Penny is the Australian Shepard, Moose is the sweet Lab)

DANGERS: poison oak everywhere (public land). SPRING do not pet the dogs they roll in poison oak.. This is common sense... part of the trail has collapsed but nothing you can't overcome. If you have a fear of heights the trail is basically a cliff edge.

    Hiked 13.2 miles
    Gained 2142 ft elevation

    Featured: Waterfall(s), meadow(s), vista(s)

Trail: Well maintained in most areas, legible trail markers (albeit confusing at times) most areas have no signal (pay attention to alltrails map) free parking (ticketed after sunset and locked in), the actual trail is 7.3 miles (begin on the right trail because you will head down hill and end your hike on even ground rather than reverse) relatively isolated in back areas. A beautiful place to star gaze and climb trees. Moderate/hard. (we took every wrong way possible. lol)

spring is the ultimate time to traverse this trail. Not only will the hills be dressed in wildflowers but the cattle will be roaming and the mighty oak will have it's leaves again. I scheduled this hike because of the 1000 ft elevation gain but found that it wasn't a difficult trail in the least. NOT HARD. What makes this difficult is the creek crossing and full exposure NOT the. elevation gain.

Always a great hike. Versatile in views, free parking, plenty of boulders to climb etc. I would describe this hike a year rounder.. all seasons welcomed. The way down is a cake walk and the way up is great for cardio.

Well maintained easy side of moderate horse/hiking trail. Strolled the entire way, climbed the old groves and scaled the shell rock cliff to the beach to enjoy a lovely sunset. My only issue is the high traffic on a winter Tuesday and the trash it brings. (But I already knew it was high traffic) Great trail to introduce someone to hiking or trail running.

This trail is the perfect platform for curious minds. The ever changing landscape is home to docile creatures and ancient groves clothed in soft, lush, bright green moss. The climb up was at times taxing but very much so doable for all ages. More experienced hikers or fitness seekers could easily wander and train on the well maintained path. I did however see trash (Not uncommon) so if you visit don't be that asshole. "pack it in pack it out." GO ENJOY THIS 7 MILE JUNGLE GYM.

Beautiful vistas and true quiet awaits those who traverse desolation. The hike itself is moderate until the peak where bouldering and dodging shell rock awaits. worth it

The only reason this isn't a 5 star trail is because it's not full immersion. That being said, I LOVE this trail. Great cardio, fresh air, multiple trails, moss and Manzanita groves.

Fire station recommended we not trespass over land and falls have been closed to public. Probably doesn't stop people but I'm not in the business of breaking rules dished out by handsome firemen. lol

This place is a go to when you want serenity and a easy walk to release stress. My pup is well trained so I let her off leash to roam (if your dog chases cows leash them for safety). I find the spring time brings out the best in these pastures. Lime green fields resembling OZ, wild flowers, running creeks and lets not forget a wonderful spot to have lunch on top fairy falls. ( summer its a great swimming hole)

Great for families and dogs that love to be leashed. Grateful they have preserved this piece of history and that it has geocaches here. I would call this a neighborhood park more than a place to hike.
