A moderately trafficked trail on Sunday afternoon. Several groups with dogs and children. It is an easy trail however there are many roots and rocks in the trail do trip hazards. It is a beautiful trail.

This is a rails to trails bike ride. Do Not use a road bike. We have hybrid bikes and they were great. We rode the trail from Deadwood to Edgemont which is 109 miles. We did it in three days. Our first day was 49 miles 32 miles were uphill at between a 3% and 4 % grade. This was a long day for us. We ride regularly in Colorado so the elevation was not an issue it was riding with 20lb saddle bags going uphill for most of the day that was brutal. The second day was shorter at 28 miles. The uphill was much less but there was less shade so an early start in the summer is advised. The third day was 32 miles and almost all down hill. It was glorious. The trail is full of wild life and beautiful scenery. There are few places to stop and get food but water is available at most of the trailheads. Lodging is tricky but there are several services that will transport you and your bikes. We used two that were very good and honest. They were Mickelson Trail Adventure ask for Dan and Christina from Highline Adventures.

We have tried three times in the last five weeks to ride this trail. We have failed each time to be able to find full trail or stay on it. The trail is very poorly marked for biking. There are many neighborhood connectors that are poorly marked. The trailhead in Erie is closed due to bridge construction and the detour trailhead is not marked at all. Overall we were able to ride 10 miles each time but not on the trail we thought we were on. The pictures we are posting are the only signage we have seen on the trial.

Awesome hike. I would rate this hike as difficult. I did it as a youth more than 40 years ago and it hard then. I am 57 years old my wife and I did this beautifull hike today. it took us 6.5 hours to complete. We took our time a we were rewarded with breath taking views just above timberline. I would highly recommend this lightly traveled trail.
