So this was my first time in this area. Physically, it wasn’t that tough of a hike but we definitely hit a couple of sections of really janky trail.
Just before Sturtevant Waterfall there was 5 or 6 foot section where it looked like the trail/rock got sheered clear away. And the drop was probably about ~70 feet. That said, we met up with some backpackers at Spruce Grove who mentioned that they had been warned about that part of the trail but didn’t encounter anything like that. So I’m wondering if there is another way over the waterfall?
The only other thing that caught me off guard was how much sun we got as we descended the west part of the loop. I didn’t realize the switchbacks we so exposed and got blasted by the morning’s sun for a good mile.
Still, it was a great hike. My teenage kids and I had a lot of fun!

We hiked in at 4:30 a.m. and enjoyed the sunrise. The city lights were spectacular.

My kids and I hiked in at 5AM and watched the sunrise over hot chocolate. Good times.

Pretty well maintained campsite. Vaulted toilets could use some attention but have seen much worse. Fun little spot!

Fun but a little hard on my 3 and 4 year old. Not a lot of shade

nice, clean little trail. Perfect for small children There is poison oak on this trail so keep the little ones covered and on the trail.

Fun little hike. Weather was great and lots of water. Only thing to bear in mind is a nasty patch of poison oak at about ~1 mile so avoid wearing shorts.

It’s a pretty easy hike. The road is paved and heavily trafficked for the first couple of miles but relatively quiet afterwards.
I was struck by the scenery on the way in. Perhaps because of that I was a little disappointed with the campground. It isn’t bad but I did feel a little letdown after such a stunning walk-in. Oh, don’t count on the toilets being unlocked so you may want to bring a trowel if you’re planning on camping.
