Really awesome and and actually slightly challenging trail! Went on a really cloudy/foggy day so no view from the flagpole because we were up in the clouds. Trail markers were absolutely terrible and confusing. We wandered on different trails until we bumped into some people who had done it before and knew the way. I think whoever recorded this trail was also trying to figure out the route. Either way, there’s more than one way to get to the flagpole so make sure you look at the map beforehand and plan it out. Trail is slightly overgrown so wear long pants and be wary of rattlesnakes! Very beautiful right now and very green still!

Yes, little shade. Yes, can get hot. Remember your in a valley in the dessert. Yes, it does get crowded, especially around the falls as the day goes on. Yes, the falls are fantastic to see and definatley worth it! Cautions: 1. Be very careful in and around the falls as it can be very steep and slippery. Saw a young woman crossing the falls loose her footing and slip, washing her down the waterfall. Thankfully it was on the lower, less dangerous fall where people do waterslide. 2. The road to the trailhead is dirt, loose gravel, and a bit rocky. AWD car recommended but did see some normal cars make it through, albeit slowly.

Priscilla Peraza reviewed Lost Coast Trail: Mattole to Black Sands Beach

This was my first backpacking trip and it was absolutely amazing! Just incredibly beautiful. If you love the beach, you get it. Did it comfortably in three days (Start 5/19 @ 10am - End 5/21 @ 3pm). 2 days is tough but doable. Bring tide charts because there are impassable sections. Would recommend buying the BLM map. Campsites are easily found and common at wide mouthed rivers even in the impassable sections! Plenty of water sources. There’s relative solitude during Spring/Summer. Permit is required! Would recommend going North to South, taking a shuttle Mattole and leaving your car at the Black Sands. Terrain is pretty roughy, either big rocks or sand so be prepared! Absolutely amazing trip!

Pretty long trail with a decent amount of elevation gain. Didn’t make it to the top so plan on taking a few hours to go out and back. Don’t go on a hot day, there’s not a whole lot of shade. Still very pretty.

Very easy, good for family/kids. There’s nice views of the mountains and just an all around beautiful place. Planning on returning in the spring.

If you're looking for more of a challenge than the normal route from the tram, this is for YOU! The elevation gain is insane but its well worth it. There is a prickly and brushy area that sweeps your legs so wear long hiking pants.

Take this way down. Safer but still be careful...just be smart.

Priscilla Peraza reviewed Santiago Peak Holy Jim Trail

Awesome hike. It's actually not too bad. Once you get to the Great Divide (road), you can go left up to the peak or right to the Holy Jim Trail. If you choose to go right, the Holy Jim trail is a little ways down to the left and kind of hidden (look for a pile of rocks). This way is a bit steeper but manageable. View on top is not 360 degrees so you kind of have to walk around, choose a view, and try to find a shady spot to take a break. Not to mention, there's thousands of nats and ladybugs bugging you. But overall, great views as you're going up and down.

Some steep hills but nothing too strenuous. It was actually really fun! This trail is actually comprised of several trails in the San Juan area. However, if you follow the track it will take you to the flagpole and you can see Dana Point Harbor and then Saddleback mountain in the other direction. Good hike for kids and dogs!

Priscilla Peraza reviewed Black Star Canyon Trail

Warning! This trail is hard! Bouldering is required and the length is more around 8 miles! It took around 4 hours to complete. This trail gets tougher as you climb higher and becomes more dangerous. I would recommend long sleeves and pants. There is a lot of poison oak growing and it also helps against scrapes. I would actually also recommend gloves for the rock climbing portion. The falls at the end is so worth it though! Its a refreshing break and a nice pic opportunity. :)

It was fairly easy. There were a couple of super steep hill but for the most part manageable. You can get several nice views of the ocean but for the most part you're in the environment.

Tough uphill climb. I usually do this for training or a cardio workout! Not much of a trail but it gets your work-out in!
