Easy to do in one day if coming from Denver. Much cooler than driving to the top of Evans. Great views of the landscape above tree line. Warning: Avoid this hike if you are squeamish about sketchy mountain roads.

Please pick up your trash! This trail is great. Do it!!!! I would give five stars, but the logging operations and the trash left behind by others make this route less than perfect.

This is an amazing trip in Wrangell-St. Elias. Great waterfalls, dramatic peaks, glaciers, etc. You will likely see other parties out there, so don't expect to have the whole place to yourself. Get a good USGS map, not just a GPS. I would also urge great caution for the river crossings. Crossing Toby Creek and the Chitistone is nothing to take lightly. Be prepared for some bushwhacking, but try to avoid it whenever possible. Although this trip is doable in 5 days, I'd strongly recommend taking at least eight days to enjoy some day hikes and side trips. I'd be happy to discuss this further and share some photos and tips. It still gets chilly in the first week of April up there, and you are even likely to find snow and ice once your get above 8,000 feet or so. It depends on the year. This is a very strenuous hike to do in one day, but absolutely worth it. I highly recommend it. Dry Lake is a great spot to eat lunch before you head back to the trailhead.

The Haynach Lakes Trail is amazing, so ignore the reviewer who gave it three stars. That reviewer is correct that it is not easy to get to, but with that said, you will not see masses of people there. When I was there, it was just a few people doing some fishing and one biologist studying fish populations. I did this trail as part of a five-day loop from Grand Lake, starting on the Tonahutu Creek Trail and passing over the Bighorn Flats to the North Inlet Trail. Unforgettable scenery! Haynach Lakes is a side-trip of that loop that is well worth the time. In addition to this, I would also recommend bushwhacking your way up to Bench Lake from the North Inlet. Tough hiking, but absolutely stunning.
