An ideal hike! We went after a snow and it was gorgeous. All the falls were spectacular. Moderate difficulty with only a few steep sections, and the trail is well maintained.

Nice hike with multiple overlooks, a natural bridge, and a small gorge section.  Moderately strenuous, but be prepared to bushwack around fallen trees and search for elusive blazes.  The trail might be more visible in summer,  but the winter views are hard to beat! This is in a Wildlife Management Area, and many weekends during hunting season the trails are closed for managed game hunts. Check the forest website before you go.  Also the access road is unpaved, so depending on conditions you may want to park at the first Cumberland Trail parking lot instead of going all the way to the Snooper's Rock lot.

Peter S reviewed Black Mountain Trail

I combined the Black Mountain CT trail and the first portion of the Byrd Mountain / Grassy Cove trail as an overlook-to-overlook hike. This formed a ~14-mile out-and-back, including boulder exploring and the Windless Cave spur. Black mountain has massive stone formations, a great overlook area, and a fairly gentle slope.  Byrd mountain trail is a bit steeper but follows atv routes for the most part, and the overlook has a stunning, unobstructed eastward view of Grassy Cove and beyond.  My app claimed 3800' total elevation gain but that seems off.  Highly recommended.

Lovely loop around Cub Lake with changes in scenery to keep things interesting. Crosses through the recreation and cabin areas where it can be a little tricky to find where the trail picks up again. There are also 3 splits to continue onto other sections of the 30-mile Red Leaves Trail which winds throughout the park/state forest.

This is a nice casual hike on gently rolling terrain alongside Pin Oak Lake. Depending on which map or sign you consult, it's between 2.5 and 3.5 miles. It starts at the parking lot next to the villas and turns around at a picnic area with a large shelter and bathrooms, near the entrance to the Boy Scout campground. Very quiet and pretty area.

This easy 1-mile loop is adjacent to a picnic pull-off. It takes you down a hillside scarred with deep gullies formed due to poor land management prior to the park's establishment. Also, there are two steep staircases built into the big gully for further exploring - the stairs nearest to the picnic area need maintenance though so be cautious.
