Peter Bracha reviewed Glen Onoko Falls and Lehigh Gorge Overlook Trail

My wife, pup and I hiked September 8th, 9:00 am, ~65 degree weather. It took three hours and was a terrific hike, but we really couldn't have been luckier with the temperature and the recent rains. The falls were beautiful and the air was clean permitting a great vista of the Lehigh valley. We went right on the Glen Onoko Loop up to the falls. It was reasonably steep up the ~1,000 foot climb and I imagine going left could be difficult. We had a dog so we didn't want to go the more difficult route, but we may have missed a few falls. If rain is a possibility, ankle high boots are a good idea. Otherwise, low cut hiking shoes aren't unreasonable. Apple maps won't take you to the correct trailhead. There is a sign on Main street for the falls, soon after you get off of North street that will take you in the correct direction.

Nice views. Tough hike in the heat. If you want to get the tough part out of the way (uneven and rocky trail, moderately steep climb), do the loop counterclockwise. After getting to the Pinnacle vista, the rest of the trip is a gentle downhill hike. There's a great view from both Pulpit Rock and The Pinnacle.

Nice trail for central Indiana. The biggest negative would be the good chunk that was on a gravel road. We ran into maybe 5 other groups on the trail on a Sunday, so it's reasonably secluded. The spring vegetation was beautiful. Others suggest going clockwise, but we went counter clockwise and were happy we did. The most beautiful section was at the beginning for us, when we weren't tired. If we had seen the best part after 8 miles, we probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.
