This trail is pretty easy. Even though the trail is about 10 miles, the terrain of the trail is mostly soft. The hike took about 6 hours for plenty of stops and photo taking. The views are fantastic.

Before hiking, a fee of $10 per person is required at the ranger post. We parked near the bathrooms.

Before the hike it is recommended to spray some bug spray because the black flies and mosquitos are relentless. It seemed like the OFF sweat resistant insect repellent worked WAY BETTER than the Natrapel 12 Hour bug spray. Keep spraying while hiking also.

The beginning couple miles and the last mile towards the peak are hardest parts of the hike. More than 2 liters of water should be good enough to quench your thirst throughout the hike. Don’t be afraid of being sunburned because there is shade throughout the hike.

The best things about this hike are:
    - trail is very well maintained and wide
    - the views are great
    - trail is not hard on the knees

The hike is overall amazing I would do it again. Really not too hard. Got there around 6am and finished around 12pm. Used my annual adventure pass to park. The parking place is the turnout little past the gate with a heart. The gate with the heart is where the trail begins.

Took my friends and I a longer time because of the photos we were taking. There was NO ONE on the trail. The trail gets a little tight with surrounding brush. You will definitely get scratched on this hike. Along the trail there were some great spots to look at the different landscapes the terrain offers. The downside of the hike was the horse flies. They were everywhere and swarmed us. There were about 20 horse flies biting us. They followed my friends and I throughout the trail and back all the way to the car. The horse fly’s bites sting and really get annoying. The bug spray we were using did not work against these flies.

In the end, the ammo box and the panoramic view make the hike a must do. If it wasn’t for the horse flies I would give the hike a 5/5 rating.

This trail should be CLOSED. $10 for full day parking. The first 2 miles, the trail is somewhat clear to see. The last couple miles towards the peak there was no trail at all. My buddies and I were trying to following the trail map all the way up the peak but there was no trail to find. If you do this hike you have to climb over so many obstacles because there is no trail in the last couple miles. We were lost so many times and it really it got frustrating. This hike does not go through the palm canyon. Not only that, the heat bites you in the end because there is no shade at all. In all, this hike needs maintenance. The hike has a lot of loose rocks. Don’t do this hike, it’s extremely dangerous because of the rattlesnakes and plethora of cacti.

I arrived there like 6am in the morning but just parked on the side of the road. HOWEVER be aware of the no parking signs near the entrance of the park. The hike was decent and my opinion lacked a feel of overall nature. Probably more blooming flowers in the spring. For the experienced hiker this hike is way too easy, but a good starting place for willing beginning hikers. The terrain is little rocky. In all, was a hike with couple views of the reservoir and lakes. Good hike to do with a just a couple people.
