Paul Dyer reviewed South Kaibab to Phantom Ranch to Bright Angel Trail

Bucket list hike. South Kaibab to Phantom Ranch is fast and beautiful. Coming back on Bright Angel was great along the creek. Last 3 miles of hike had the most switchbacks I have ever encountered. Not enough sleep the night before and no real hiking since last October made for a painful ascent. But it was best hike of my life so far. The hike is more like 19 miles if you add up the segments of the trails on the official Grand Canyon map. It was 19.5 miles on my hike/walk apple app. I would do it again but stay overnight at Phantom Ranch and troutfish, eat and get a good night's sleep for the ascent. Would be much more enjoyable and have time for lots of pics.

Such a relaxing time on the Zion tram after a day of hiking. Deer are as common as birds in a park. Will definately go back in 2018.

Pretty cool but like everything in Zion, it was a little crowded.

We had come from Zion the day before and were told Bryce doesn't compare yet the freedom to drive to every lookout point was something you can't get at Zion. We weren't interested in "really" hiking and just did Navajo Loop and a couple others. Driving all the way back to Rainbow point was very cool. The views are amazing and the freedom to choose makes all the difference. Also- we found out after that if you pay for a year pass it will admit you to every National Park in America for a low $60. We ended up our trip at Grand Canyon, AZ., and the ranger at the entry station hooked us up by showing our receipts for both Bryce and Zion. Now we have a year pass to enjoy any park we choose.

Too many people in October so I can only imagine what the summer must be like. The final ascent to the landing seems a bit on the dangerous side considering the amount of people log-jammed going up and down in the chain sections. I was told that there will soon be a permit for those wanting to go to the top. I saw small children and even a guy carrying his child of 4 or 5 months in a baby carrier!! It is amazing to see all the types of people that come to enjoy nature and one another.

Very nice hike. Well maintained trail and great views from the Ranger tower. Unfortunately it was locked so I was unable to lookout from the inside. Only 1:40 mins from Phoenix metro area.

This is a great trail. The Crack is great but upstream and downstream from there are lots of beautiful secluded areas to enjoy. It is 3.5 miles to the crack so be sure to bring plenty of water. I hiked with my son and we ran a little low but made it back to the car. I would recommend this trail to everyone.

This is a great trail with great views. Willow Spring is interesting especially if the water is flowing. Really liked this hike and trails are well kept and dog friendly. Not far from the city I live and you feel like you are a long way from home.

Had a great time today on the trails. Due to recent rains the air quality was excellent and the desert colors were fantastic. The lake was a beautiful blue and made for great photos at the top of Yavapai Pt.

Outstanding trail quality and quick ascent to the top of Yavapai Point. The cloudless, sunny day made for beautiful colors of the desert and the deep blue of the lake. I would recommend this trail to everyone as the combination of surrounding mountains, beautiful desert, and blue lake made for a very nice day. Lots of great photos taken today.

This is actually the HASSAYAMPA RIVER PRESERVE. $6 per vehicle but very family friendly trails here. The paths around the preserve are so well kept and soft, your feet will thank you. I came here the day after an 8 mile hike and my feet felt great. Trail meanders along the river and takes you to a nice butte where you can get a good look around the area. Some cows and bulls grazing add some excitement along with an occassional sighting of a Javelina. The people at the preserve are very friendly and it's a quick trip from West side of Phoenix area.
