Pat Crebbin reviewed Navajo Knobs Trail

Be prepared for a long uphill hike with no water. Take at least 3-liters, maybe 4. This is an epic hike, if you make it all the way. The views ARE phenomenal from the Navajo Knobs. You can see parts of Capitol Reef that only a helicopter can see. Go early to beat the heat and the thunderstorms. Rated Hard due to the exposure, lack of water, and distance. Last little scramble was well marked with cairns, as was the entire trail.

No traffic and incredible views. We started on the Cohsb Canyon trail at the Hickman Arch/Navajo Knobs Trailhead and hiked all the way to Cassidy Arch. About 9.5 miles round trip. The scenery was incredible. My favorite hike in Capitol Reef so far. Longer than some hikes, but worth it. I liked it better than Najaho Knobs, Cassidy Arch, Grand Wash, Capital Wash and Hickman Arch. Take at least 3-liters of water. There are many washes and slot canyons accessible about 1-mile into the trail from Cohab Canyon that are very inviting.

One of my favorite spot in Capitol Reef. Trail is a long staircase up to Cassidy Arch then quickly down. Heavy traffic is avoided early or late. Came down the trail in Moonlight and headlamps, which was epic. Saw kids from 8-yrs and older that still had energy after the hike. The kids were only hungry.

Get here early to avoid the heat and the crowds. Imagine a cave with a REAL tall sun roof. Take plenty of water as there are only seasonal springs in winter and early spring. Not technically hard; just a long walk in the heat if you're not early. Moonlight doesn't help as the cliff walls are too high.
