Not exactly the wilderness experience we were expecting. Even though the trail was lovely, we couldn't get into it because it ran along the road.

This isn't my favorite hike. At one point the trail ran along an industrial warehouse...not what I'm looking for when I'm hiking. But the real downfall was having to yield to all the mountain bikers. None of them called out their approach so I was often left to scramble out of the way. Mountain bikers have clearly taken over so maybe it's best to just give them this one.

This trail just became one of my favorites! It's super easy to find, just take I-70 to exit 218. The parking lot is on the north side. I got there yesterday (Sat 8/5/17) around 10:30 a.m. Even though the lot was full, the early birds were beginning to come of the trail so spots opened up. I didn't find the uphill climb in the beginning as hard as everyone was claiming. Don't me wrong, it's a grind but don't let it scare you away. This trail is gorgeous!

Spectacular beauty! Wildflowers, water, lakes and views.

I loved this hike! It starts out through 2 meadows with aspens and beautiful wildflowers. The first 2.5 miles is a long, steep grind until you get to Surprise Lake. But then things get a little easier. My dog loved all the creek crossings. I took a star away for two reasons: 1. It was poorly marked. I met 2 other groups at a trail marker near Cat Lake. There was NO mention of Upper Cataract Lake. (just so you know, continue walking straight beyond the spur). 2. This is more of a complaint with Alltrails.com. The site said this hike is dog-friendly. There was NO mention that leashes are required.

I read others say there was still a lot of snow so I came prepared. There was snow but not nearly what I expected. I got to the trailhead around 8:30 a.m. which was perfect. There was still parking available and the crowds hadn't shown up yet. I ended up meeting a couple of people who planned on hiking beyond Silver Dollar Lake so I tagged along. We went up to the saddle which took us to 13,200 feet. Wow, that was so worth it!

I love this trail. It's wonderful all year round, although winter weekends can get a little crowded with touring skiers. The trail is a steady uphill climb and is very scenic as you walk through the pines. The best part for me was when I broke above tree line. I thought it was beautiful. All in all, it's a great trail for beauty, a good workout and time with your dog.

This is a nice lunchtime or after work trail when you want to burn off some steam. It's definitely a good workout. I've been up several times. One time we got lucky to hear a band rehearsing at Red Rocks. The acoustics were so amazing that we considered coming back up just to hear the full concert for free. There are a few nice views but it's not one of the prettiest hikes. I go for the workout.

This is by far my favorite hike. I came here two years ago with a Meetup group and couldn't get it out of my mind. So I decided to bring the dog to explore it on my own. Gorgeous! I have to admit, the first time I came I found the climb a bit challenging. But I had just moved here from the midwest so I wasn't acclimated to the altitude yet. This time was a breeze. Be sure to bring plenty of water! It was 12 miles out and back. Believe them when they say trailhead parking is at a minimum. You might be wise to skip the search and just go straight to the Nederland P&R for the shuttle. I got lucky this time, probably because it was fall and the weather in Denver was overcast. As I said, I love this hike so I'm amazed I'm the first to rate it.

I love this area! Granted, I haven't hiked all the trails yet but it has the best dog park I've seen in the Denver area.
