Norman Lathrop reviewed Trout Lake Loop Trail

My review is from the perspective of an amateur landscape photographer.

Don't bother with this trail. There are no scenic vistas. The lake views are mediocre at best. There are better lakes with more scenic views along the Blue Ridge. Spend your time at those. Julian Price Lake and nearby Bass Lake come to mind,

My review is from the perspective of an amateur landscape photographer.

First I just did the walk around the lake and did not hike the "maze" portion.

This was a nice lake. What sets it apart of the ordinary is an island in the middle of the lake. That really adds some interest to the composition. Also, lily pads grow abundantly around the perimeter of the shore adding foreground interest. I wasn't there at the "golden hour" but I intend to go back sometime because I think the scene would be even better.

The only reservation I have is that the park is open from "dawn to dusk" what ever that means. So I'm not sure if golden hour photography is possible. I hope so.

My review is from the perspective of an amateur landscape photographer.

There aren't any outstanding landscape compositions on this trail. The summit is an open meadow but its completely surrounded by trees with no views. The lake is just mediocre with no good compositions. There are some nice meadows if you enjoy those.

The best photo op I saw is a possible nice shot of the trees along the trail once the leaves change color. I marked the spot on my trail record.

Bottom line: There's a lot of other good hikes and viewpoints along the Blue Ridge. Spend your time there.

Norman Lathrop reviewed Bluff Mountain Trail

My review is from the perspective of an amateur landscape photographer

I hiked the portion of the hike from the Doughton Park parking lot to Bluff Mountain. This review covers just that portion of the trail

From the parking lot the trail to the picnic area is part of the Mountains to Sea Trail There are about 2-3 nice areas with views of distant mountains, fields and rugged rocks.

From the picnic area you have a nice sunset view looking west to the distant mountains. An even better view is to hike the Bluff Mt trail toward the shelter. But turn right at the junction instead of left and take trail to Bluff Mt. About 200 yards past the junction along the trail you’ll find open space with an excellent view to the west. A 28-135mm lens will work great.

    Norman Lathrop reviewed Cloudland Trail

My review is from the perspective of an amateur landscape photographer.

At the end of the trail is a platform looking primarily north with a 180 degree view. Composition is the “endless mountains” with many ridge lines fading to infinity. The only thing missing is a strong foreground element although there are some nice rocks to the left Please see my photos to judge if the composition is something you like.

I’m not sure if it’s a good sunset location and hope to visit another time to evaluate.

Norman Lathrop reviewed Ohio and Erie Canal Townpath Trail

My review is from the perspective of an amateur landscape/nature photographer.

The majority of the trail is typical Eastern US hardwood forest and there's no standout feature. The one exception is Beaver Pond. The pond/marsh was created by beavers and there's a nice boardwalk through it. It's a good spot to shoot a sunrise, photograph birds and look for the elusive beavers. ( I saw one while I was there). There's really now reason to any further along the trail.

If you are visiting the Cuyahoga Valley NP and are looking for wildlife or birds, go to the pond.
