Devin Andrews reviewed Hyas Lake Trail

I did this trail on the way to Tuck and Robin Lakes. Very easy access to the trail which means tons of hikers. Everybody is nice that I met but the bathrooms are closed here at the trailhead so plan for that.

The trail has many small stream crossings so waterproof boots would help a lot. I counted three large camp sites at this area (trailside) and I'm sure they're more if you managed to make it to the other side of Hyas Lake.

Beautiful place and if you are looking to get out with minimal effort, this is the place to go.
Just take your time and look at the wild paintbrush in bloom through the meadows

    Happy Hiking y'all.

Incredible. The views are AMAZING and while we didn't go to Robin lakes this time around, we did spend three days at Tuck.

Like most reviewers said, it's a few miles off flat hiking before turning up to the right just after Hyas Lake. Switchbacks start here and go up at a steady pace for about two miles. At this point, you'll hit the "T" with 'Tuck and Robin Lakes' scribed on a sign posted on a tree. If you continue straight, it'll take you to Marmot and Jade Lake but if you turn right, you'll be on the path to Tuck and Robin Lakes. The path to T@R lakes heads downward for a little before turning straight up for the final 1.5 mile climb to Tuck. You can set up camp and do Robin Lakes as a day hike if you choose or trudge on to Robin. Cairns mark the way on the right side of the lake to climb over the huge boulders before finally hitting the dirt trail heading up.

The bugs were hit and miss... A light breeze blows through and takes em away most of the time but when it stops blowing, the bugs ate us alive. My nephew fished Tuck and got some really nice 6-8 inch cutthroat trout but the fishing wasn't as good as he would have hoped. Hikers coming down from Robin had the same luck. We were packing up today (8/14/18) and a family of goats wandered into camp and wouldn't leave. Darn things followed us around like dogs for a while until we finally got everything picked up to go. Really fascinating animals as ive never been this close to em. All in all, it was a steep hike and with enough bug spray, it was worth every aching muscle.

The smoke haze was really moving in today so if you're considering going in anytime soon, do it now rather then later. My opinion, of course.

    Happy hiking y'all!

It poured rain, thundered while lightning streaked across the sky but we made it all the way down to Dewey Lake and back up. Bugs are definitely bad on this hike but we were fortunate that the weather kept them off us. Bring bug spray.

We parked at the bridge crossing above Tipsoo. The trail was well kept and only a few rock beds were laid into the trail for water runoff. Tons of wildflowers laced between lush grass on both sides made it quite peaceful. I was very surprised that with the storm rolling in that there were so many overnight campers.

The trail can get crowded and we chose to start in the afternoon to avoid it and it worked well. Overall, I would definitely do this again and would highly recommend this hike for families that enjoy getting out.

Overall, it's a great hike. I've done it numerous times as a first backpacking lake to get the year started off right. Unfortunately, I misjudged the weather and couldn't make it to the lake via the regular trail simply because I couldn't find it through all the snow about a .5 mile from the lake. The road getting here was horrible (as usual) so just take your time. Huge potholes and ruts nearly the entire way to the 'T' for Coplay and Summit Lake so vehicles with higher clearance only. I'll try this again at the end of June to see if the snow has melted out.

The trail is short but moderately steep (in places) to bench and snow lakes. Being accessible from the main road means there's a ton of people that will be on the trail with you. Ultimately, the beautiful mountain/ lake views and wildflowers make it a great place to be.

Devin Andrews reviewed Old Mine Trail

First off, this is near Carbonado, WA. This hike is kid friendly. You basically walk the closed road from the carbon river ranger station to the cutoff (on the right) for the old mine. It's a moderately steep and short trail to the top where the mine is boarded off but it allows you to take some cool pictures with heavily overgrown forest. If you're short on time, then this small hike may be for you.

Beautiful lake... fairly easy hike but there was a ton of people. After 10am it became Disneyland mountain so if you're planning on hiking here, definitely go early or hike in later in the day if you're backpacking in for the night. Trust me. The trail starts with a couple hundred steps that eventually even out to a steady incline for 2 or so miles. The last mile or so are switchbacks and the trail becomes steeper as you trek through rocks and shale so poles are recommended. Once i got through the beginning portion of the lake i shed all the day hikers. Camping was mild in temp and the lake was buggy as hell but overall, it was a great trip. Absolutely beautiful to watch the sun go down and rise over the mountain.

Moderate elevation, short distance, wildflowers, 360° views at the top and just beautiful scenery going up made this hike a keeper. I'll use this hike when I'm short on time but still wanting a full featured hike.
