Frying pan! Been visiting this spot for years, and can always expect beautiful views from the trail and tower. The top is locked because I'm pretty sure the Forest Service still uses this tower.
But none the less, it's worth the mile and a half!

Looking Glass is the perfect day hike, offering spectacular views. I recommend getting an early start because the trail can get a little crowded year round in the afternoons.

John Rock is a fantastic day hike, although to access the John Rock trail you have to use the loop trail coming from the fish hatchery/parking area.
All in all the trek is a moderate 5 -ish miles. Making for a perfect adventure and solid day in the woods!

Beautiful spot, with not much of a hike to the top of the mountain either. 360 • view and spectacular scenery.

Done this trail a few times from Davidson River Campground in Pisgah, up over the Parkway and into Shining Rock Wilderness to Camp Daniel Boone.
One of my favorites in the area for sure. Also a nice addition to cut down the Parkway following the road to Sam Knob and then connecting back to the bald via Art Loeb spur trail.
