Short hike but a good work out. The top of the trail is a jumping off point for a lot of other trails. We went on a foggy day so the overlooks were a bit useless but the fog did make for a more mysterious journey. :)

Short hike with a steep incline. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes as the trail has been washed out in many areas. Definitely a good workout.

You have to climb Cowles Mountain first which is plagued with visitors. But once you pass the summit and continue on the Pyles Peak Trail, there is significantly less people and is much nicer. The trail is very rocky so make sure you are wearing comfortable and sturdy shoes.

Good for a quick hike/workout but it was definitely ruined by the crowds. I was amazed at the amount of people on the trail at 6:30am on a Wednesday.

Nicolla Sanguinetti reviewed South Fortuna-North Fortuna-Sheppards Trail Loop

A good work out. I tackled North Fortuna Peak first which I really enjoyed. It also meant that I went down the stairs after climbing South Fortuna. There is very little shade so be prepared. I also recommend hiking in the morning as it's cooler and has less people. This is a great loop if you are trying to complete the 5 Peaks Challenge as you can knock out two peaks in one go.

Nicolla Sanguinetti reviewed Cougar Ridge to Engelmann Oak Trail

Great hike. There are parts that are steep, and others that are more level, making it a good all around hike. You also get to see different types, especially if you take the Engleman Oak trail off Cougar Ridge. There are a bunch of side trails and loops further along at the end of the ridge trail so you can spend all day there. Dogs are welcome. After the recent rains there is definitely some trail erosion but there is also more ponds, creeks and frogs that aren't usually there.

This is a very good hike for almost all skill levels. The large amount of switchbacks means that the incline is never too steep except for in the very beginning. There is almost no shade so make sure you're prepared for a lot of sun. Go early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds.

Nicolla Sanguinetti reviewed Potato Chip Rock via Mt. Woodson Trail

Great hike. Definitely difficult for the first few miles. I went on a weekday and very early in the morning (6am) so the trail wasn't too busy. But there were a lot of people coming up as I was going down. Not the best hike if you are just starting out but its a great workout.

Really pretty. The uphill was very steep but worth the effort. The views from the top were really great, especially on a clear day. There are so many nearby trails that it is easy to roam around all day if you wanted.
