Favorite hike. Also the most terrifying. The 2nd to 3rd peak is no joke. Not for the faint of heart nor the everyday hiker. But well worth the payoff for the views and the experience. Again, if you’re not in excellent shape, stick with the first peak, maybe the second - the views don’t get any better (but if you’re up for the challenge the 3rd peak is where it’s at.)

This hike was fun. Very fun. The first half is pure elevation gains and crisscrossing over the creek/river flowing through. It was more of a puzzle than anything else. Make sure you wear hiking boots and woolsmart socks - and prepare for your feet to get wet! Hiking poles would’ve been helpful with crossing the river (you probably cross 10+ times) but a good ole walking stick worked fine too. Probably too difficult for little kids - I also wouldn’t recommend to less experienced hikers or anyone who’s not excited about the prospect of rock hopping over a waterfall. Our group loved it though!

Awesome hike that we made into a loop after camping off the Massanutten trail. All in all we clocked a little over 10 miles, but also got a bit lost at the end. This trail is definitely HARD (unlike some of the other hikes rated similarly on here.) It’s long, it’s steep, it’s up and down and up and down and then boulders! But well worth it if you’re up for the challenge. We followed the directions from HikingUpwards + the reviews there. Wonderful hike that I would do again. It probably took us 6.5 hours with a dog.

The previous reviews for this hike were accurate - go counter clockwise, wear hiking boots or your ankles won’t like you, and expect a long route with some good elevation gains and some nice flora. This was a nice long hike with a few okay lookouts, but there are definitely more challenging, fun, and less time consuming hikes in the Shenandoah/GW National forest area. It was a good workout, especially because of the length + decent elevation, but all in all I can’t say I’d highly recommend. It took us about 5.5 hours with an hour rest in the middle - and we’re mostly youthful/in shape :)
