I found this to be an enjoyable, not heavily traveled path. I did this trail as an overnight hiking/camping trip with a college group. Some parts of trail were narrow and overgrown, but for the most part it was visible with plenty of orange blazes to mark the way. The trail criss crosses a mostly dry (at the time) creekbed which I imagine can get flowing with enough rain. The cave and spring were a cool feature with flowing water and some moss covered rocks. Overall the trail is mostly wooded with a few open prairies along the way and relatively flat with some moderate inclines in a couple of spots. The campground we used was good, heavily wooded, and didn't appear overused. It was far enough from the main trail for seclusion, and has a rock ring for campfires. Only downside was some city noise and frequent trains throughout the day and night.

Twin Sisters is a moderately difficult hike that begins near Lily Lake. You have to cross the landslide area once during ascent, but then can continue on what is left of the switchbacks on the south side. Good views from the top of each peak, one of which is about 15 feet higher than the other. Started our hike at about 7:30 AM, but should have started about an hour earlier as we ran into some rain and hail on our descent.

Good hike from Bear Lake Trailhead. Great views of lakes below and adjacent peaks. Challenging hike with a decent elevation gain of 2849 feet over the course of a 4.4 mile trail. Being that Flattop Mountain is a large, open plain, it is worth the extra effort to climb nearby peaks such as Hallett for a better view.

Excellent hike from the Bear Lake Trailhead. Start early to avoid crowds at the beginning of trail and to miss inclement midday weather. It is a challenging hike with a fairly significant elevation gain (3236 ft.) over the length of the hike. (5 mi.) Terrific views of the lakes below and adjacent peaks along the way. Well worth the additional climb from Flattop Mountain.

Paved trails with some fairly steep sections to add a bit of challenge.

The Mississippi River Trail is a flat, paved loop trail for walking, running or biking. There is a cornfield located in the center of the loop and woods surrounding with the bluffs to the west side. Good easy to navigate path... The Spring Valley and River Bluff Trails are the unpaved trails that leads to the cave and hills above the Park.
