Nate Maiwald reviewed Mount Cammerer via Low Gap Trail

A great hike if you're looking for a challenge. We began from Cosby camground and took the Low Gap Trail to the AT. This first stretch is completely uphill and a steep grade at times. The first bit follows the river and then crosses over a trickle before meeting up with the AT. This is the last water you'll have access to, so fill up and filter if needed. Bugs are relentless (or at least in the summer when I went) on this stretch to the AT intersection. Once you meet the AT, it levels off and you can quicken your pace, as it is a pretty simple hike to the Cammerer approach trail. The approach trail is a short hike up to the fire tower, with gorgeous views. Both sunset and sunrise can be viewed unobstructed from the tower and are truly gorgeous. On a Saturday in the Smokies, we saw a total of about 8 people and had the whole place to ourselves for the night. An awesome hike and great views, would definitely recommend to experienced hikers

Great trail if you're looking for a relatively challenging day hike. The trek from the road to the bald is almost completely uphill, with some flatter areas about half way. There are multiple places to filter water and camping spots where the Bartram Trail intersects if you're not up for doing this in one day. The only downside to this trail is that there are very few views on the way up. An alternative to the route posted is driving up to the bald, hiking down and crossing Wayah Rd, and going to Silers Bald (the offshoot a couple miles after the road crossing). It's a great spot that offers 360 views and a nice camping spot.

Probably one of the best places on the southern end of the Appalachian Trail. Certainly the best since leaving Springer. The hike from Tellico is steep but very short. The whole trail is chard from the forest fires, but the tower is in perfect condition. The view is spectacular, and an incredible place for camping. Hidden jewel of North Carolina.

Excellent hike with lots of shelters on the way with opportunities to replenish water. There's a short side trail towards Tellico Gap up to Rocky Top that provides good views if isn't too hazy. Very short and worth the detour. Would highly recommend this hike, especially trying to catch sunrise at Wayah.

If you cross over the dam, you will find a trail on the other side. From there, the trail will lead you around the far side of the rim to a neat overlook of the waterfall opposite of the observation point. Following the trail from there will bring you to the bottom of the falls in only a few minutes. Its steep and requires hands, but is very short. View from the bottom is great and almost nobody is ever down there, highly recommend if you don't mind getting your feet wet crossing the dam.

Great views and somewhat easy hike considering how short it is. Very rocky and moderately steep, so be cautious when wet
