This is a cool little hike through a high desert canyon. I went after it snowed so it was very hard to follow any actual trail there might have been. I only made it about half way through before I decided to turn back since it was just tiring trudging through the snow. It's a cool canyon though and I'll be going back for sure to check it out when there is no snow on the ground. It was nice and peaceful and I had the entire place to myself

Nice easy hike for the whole family! All sorts of little offshoot trails down the the river to some nice little waterholes. A lot of people though

This is an amazing place to see the redwoods. Nice, easy, wheelchair accessible boardwalk all the way for a nice little stroll. It was a pretty crowded though.

Amazing place, you feel like your are at the end of the world. Was the most crowded place I went to in Pt. Reyes but still not too bad at all. The trail is paved and easy to the stairs. There are 308 stairs down to the lighthouse but it wasn't as bad as it seems. Got to see some grey whales on their migration from Alaska to Mexico!!

Awesome beach and wasn't crowded at all. You can have fires on the beach here as long as you fill out a permit at the visitor center. Great place to relax and play in the water a bit if you don't mind chilly water.

Great little easy hike right by the visitors center. Decided to do it to get a bit of a stretch after driving from Reno before going on to explore more of Pt. Reyes. Has some nice interpretive signs and feels quite deep in the woods for being so close to the visitor center. It was a great short hike that my 2 year old son easily did all by himself.

Went on this hike during the first snow of the season. I was the first person on the trail that day (Started at 7:00AM) and the entire hike was very peaceful. It's a great little hike and is so close to Reno.

I really enjoy camping at Silver Lake and swimming in the nice, cold, crystal clear waters. This time I decided to try out the Thunder Mountain hike. I hiked it on July 8th and there were still large patches of snow I had to hike through making it pretty treacherous at some parts. There were times I was hike along a massive , steep snow patch and was afraid I would slide way down the mountain if I slipped. I also lost track of the trail a few times but luckily found my way back. So, it was a pretty intense hike, especially since it was just me and my dog out there. I only passed one other person the whole time and that was when I was just about to the end. The sense of solitude out there was unreal. But, it was a really cool, but steep, hike with great views all around and I'd like to do it again when there is no snow to trek through.

This is a great trail with some of the best views in the area. It gets pretty busy on the weekends so I always go early to get parking and avoid the crowds on the way up at least. The last half is pretty steep and tiring but the views from the peak is worth the hard work.

This was my first time on this trail. It was very well marked with signs at any points they were needed. It starts off hiking uphill for about 1.2 miles in a nice pine forest with plenty of shade. Then you reach a high point with a little spur over to a vista point with a bench and informational sign. After soaking in the view there, you begin the loop portion of the hike and head back down into a canyon where Brown's creek is. I went counterclockwise on the loop portion but you could go either way just fine. The loop portion has very little trees or shade and can get quite hot even in April. After hiking down into the canyon a bit you reach the Brown's Creek. Upon reaching the creek there is a little, well build foot bridge to cross over the creek. The trail then leads you back along the other side of the canyon and spurs off into another canyon for a bit before coming back to the creek. Here there is a very small stream crossing with a simple bridge made of a few pieced of board, it probably dries up later in the year. Right after that there is a fairly flat shady spot with some good sitting rocks that made a perfect spot for us to take a little break. Right past that spot, you cross back over Brown's Creek on an identical little, well build foot bridge. Then you reach the steepest, sunniest part of the trail, this was the only part that was a little rough due to the incline and direct sun. This leads you back to where the loop started. Upon reaching the end of the loop, you end up back in the shady forest for a leisurely downhill stroll about 1.2 miles back to the parking area.
While this is a nice trail, there are many other trails in the nearby area that I like a little better since they have more shade and stay closer to the water. You do get some very nice views on this trail due to the open canyon. I am glad to have this trail to add to the list of nearby trails I like to do.
