Super fun and quick trail. About 20 minutes to the top, all uphill with a few rock scrambles. Bring a lunch and have a picnic at the top, great spot for that.

Started our hike at 5.15am and got to the top by 6.30am to watch the sunrise. It doesn’t get light out till after 6am so make sure to bring a headlamp. The hike was exciting! All uphill and made it more adventurous in the dark. Not challenging but definitely long and can be tiring at some points. The view is absolutely amazing and sunrise is not to be missed.

We did this trail right after Precipice and found it actually fairly easy in comparison. There’s a mix of rock scramble and a short iron rung climb but you get to the top if 30 minutes (maybe less, it was raining for us). The views here are absolutely incredible. If you do this hike during peak foliage I think you get the best views. If you go down the Bowl Trail there’s a fun little pond which people go for a dip in the summer.

Favourite trail of all time! I was a little worried at first given all the warnings about the steep drops. We ended up doing the hike while it was drizzling so definitely added to the adventure. Overall it’s a solid challenging hike but if you focus and are careful there’s no reason why you can’t finish. Takes about 2 hours round trip (going down the Orange/Black trail). The first 20 minutes are a rock scramble with some introduction to the iron rungs, the next 30 minutes you’ll be moving vertically and laterally holding onto iron rungs, the last 10 minutes to the top are a mix of rock scramble and rungs. Took us about an hour to get down since it was wet and we were being careful. If you have a phobia of heights, this hike is not for you. But if you’re just uncomfortable like I am then this is a great way to get comfortable and feel accomplished. The views are unbelievable.

Challenging and fun hike! Careful doing this hike if it’s too wet and make sure to wear hiking shoes.

Loved this trail! The views are incredible and it’s a steep climb all the way up. We actually got to the top and then swung across to merge with the Jordan Ridge Trail which proved to be even harder (climbing stair rods and bouldering) but eventually got us back to Jordan Pond. Don’t forget to get a popover from the Jordan Pond House!

The gorge is beautiful but the hike itself is a tourist trap. You don’t feel like you’re escaping in nature but just part of another tourist attraction.

Rock scramble all the way up to the top. It’s by far the hardest but funnest hike closest to NYC. I don’t recommend this hike for dogs unless your comfortable your dog will stay with you and will not need help climbing. There are a lot of sections where you need your hands and legs to climb.

Awesome workout! All uphill plus the elevation will keep you working till the end.

Overall good hike but it does cross through a swap which gets muddy after a rainy day.

Fun and quick hike! Love coming here with the dogs and doing two loops to get a good workout. Also great trail for running.

Great trail! I wouldn’t classify it as moderate closer to upper easy than moderate. However it was very beautiful the entire time! We started with the Rim Trail which merged into the Bear TrIl, then loops around the Lake and got back into the Gorge Trail. Took about 1 hour and 35 minutes or so. We had our dogs with us a long the way. There weren’t too many opportunities to let them off leash because of the occasional drops from the river or service roads but they still enjoyed their time.

Mila Sofia reviewed Mount Tammany: Red Dot and Blue Dot Loop Trail

This trail was a great workout! We started on the blue dot trail and went down on the red dot and it took about 1 hour and 40 minutes total hiking at a moderate pace.

Here’s what to expect on each trail:
    - River on the Blue Trail
    - Rock scramble on the Red Trail
    - Blue Trail is not as steep as the Red but it’s a little longer
    - Generally rocky throughout both trails but Red has more rocks
    - Great view at the top

I would recommend starting on the red dot and going down the blue dot. Make sure to wear hiking shoes and avoid the trail when it’s raining. Lastly I did go with my two dogs (25lbs and 14lbs) and they both did really great.

Update 9/23: Did this trail again a few days later in the late afternoon and came across a rattlesnake and a bear. Both were harmless but hikers should be aware and keep an eye out especially with dogs.
