Mike Mullaney reviewed Mount Osceola Trail

Hiked from Tripoli Road trailhead and Mount Osceola Trail to Mount Osceola and East Osceola on 10/7/2017. Up to Osceola was relatively easy and approximately 3 miles. Between Osceola and East Osceola is markedly more difficult.

The weather was disappointing with rain and clouds throughout the day so we only had occasional views. Our GPS said we did 7.8 miles out and back which is different than maps show.

Anyway, always fun to be on the trail and to get two more 4,000 footers was an added bonus.

Mike Mullaney reviewed Carter Notch Hut, Dome, Hight to 19 Mile Brook Trail

Hiked from Carter Notch Hut, up Carter Dome, to Mount Hight then down the Carter Dome Trail to the 19 Mile Brook Trail (via Zeta Pass). This was an unbelievable trip! We left the hut after breakfast at about 8:30 AM. The hike up Carter Dome is demanding - about 1,600 vertical over a little more than a mile's distance.

The ascent up Carter Dome offered a couple views of Washington and down over Carter Notch and the huts but the summit is surrounded by trees and there are no views.

We hiked on to Mount Hight where there's unbelievable 360* views that were breathtaking. Washington and Tuckerman and Huntington Ravines were vivid. The view back toward Carter Dome is awesome thinking we were just on that spine.

Going down was steep in spots over the first mile or so and it's a long walk out (for us mere weekenders) humping through about 12 miles and 4,500 vertical ascent over the weekend. No complaints -- it was a fantastic experience.

Mike Mullaney reviewed Nineteen Mile Brook Trail

Hiked the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail from the trailhead on route 16 up to the Carter Notch Hut (July 15, 2017). This was a relatively easy hike and from my research of the AMC huts, one of the easiest to access. There had been a good amount of rain over the preceding week and the brook was active in several places. Weather was warm and humid and not much sun going in, but the canopy was so dense, it would not have reached us until we neared the hut. I will write additional reviews of hikes from the hut up Wildcat and from the hut out over Carter Dome, Mount Hight and down the Carter Dome & Nineteen Mile Brook Trail.

Mike Mullaney reviewed Mount Major Trail

Hiked Mount Major in spring-like 60*F conditions in December -- what a treat when there was no snow on the ground for skiing. This is an excellent easy/moderate hike and very dog-friendly. The lake views are a treat from the summit.

    Mike Mullaney reviewed Twinway Trail

Hiked Twinway (which is also the AT) from the Zealand Hut to Mount Zealand -- which is not marked on AllTrails. The weather was cloudy and had light, intermittent rain, but better than preceding days with temps in the 90s with high humidity. Unfortunately the cloud cover resulted in very poor visibility at Zeacliff and other possible viewing spots.

The hike up to Zealand was strenuous in places and took about 4 hours round trip from/to the Zealand Hut.

The peak of Zealand is a relatively small clearing and offers no view but it's a 4,000 footer in the books.

Mike Mullaney reviewed Mount Hale via Hale Brook Trail

Hiked to Mount Hale from the Zealand Hut (Twinbrook and Lend a Hand trails) and then back down Hale Brook Trail to where we left our car the day before going up to the Hut.

The hike was enjoyable and the weather was cool and overcast which made things more bearable.

There were couple steep sections up Lend a Hand which seemed like they were more gradual than the initial decent and switchbacks down Hale Brook.

As others have noted, there's no view from the summit due to the tree growth around the clearing.

Hiked to the Zealand Hut on 8/13/2016. Left around 10 AM and fortunately after the hot weather and high humidity broke -- previous days were 90*F and 90% humidity.

Hike in was uneventful and unfortunately had limited visibility with the changeable weather systems. All in all, enjoyable and relatively easy to get to the hut, shed some gear and then leave for a couple other peaks.
