Mike Higgins reviewed Island and Twin Lakes

A few tips, limited parking on weekends but overflow parking available one mile away. The trek to twin lakes is a consistent, yet bearable climb. The first mile is forest but the last two miles you're on either solid rock (well marked) or cobble. I rate this hike as a solid moderate rather than easy moderate. Once you get to the first twin lake which is amazing, have a snack but then head out towards the second lake...my guess is to get there it's about another mile. Catching the trail to the second lake was a bit tricky. To find it, simply stay left (but close) to the first lake and you can't miss it. As you head towards the second lake, don't be fooled when the path takes you to a little beautiful lake on the path called boomerang lake - keep going and the second island lake is another quarter mile or so up a little hill. Wow!

Mike Higgins reviewed Caples Lake to Emigrant Lake Trail

First two miles hugs tight to Caples lake then a gradual decent up to Emigrant lake. This hike is rated moderate but really falls closer to easy. No real intense climbing but the gradual climb does go for the last mile or so. Highly recommend for those transitioning from easy to moderate. Make sure to look around from time to time as hidden sights can be hard to see through the trees. Nice and shady! Eight miles of beauty!

The only problem with this hike is that it's so beautiful, it makes it hard to top. As avid hikers, this is one that simply takes your breath away. Will be crowded on weekends so try to do this one during the week and not hassle with the crowds or parking. Suggest starting around 8-9am to get good parking! We used the trailhead suggested from right here on on all trails. Views are KILLER!

GO NOW while the wild flowers are in full amazing bloom! This is a great hike for all skill levels and Elk are everywhere especially if you go early or during the week. Even though we almost never do the same hike twice, we had to repeat this hike based on the wild flowers. Insane. See pics under Mike Higgins. Just a few.

Weekends are heavily trafficked but still a fun fun hike! This was the best wild flower hike in a long time! The falls are a 10 of 10 and the trail is well shaded for summer hiking! For new hikers we suggest taking the 3.3 leg first and return on the 4.5 leg. We picked up a little trash left behind from insensitive hikers.

This hike was off the charts beautiful. Views are endless after the first mile and ridge views expand both directions. We've hiked many trails off 88 and this one is right at the top.

Above average for those looking for a fairly short hike. With so many other trails available nearby, this didn't rock is. Lake Margaret itself is small by nearby standards.
