    Michele Whisenhunt reviewed Notch Trail

Short hike along a wash (theoretically there is a waterfall...but there’s gotta be a lot more water...and we are here 12 hours after a huge storm) and up a log ladder to a cliff. Nice views, interesting rocks. Ladder is fairly steep and rocky terrain makes this not an easy trail.

This was my second time on this trail. Easy and short, but beautiful trees are like nothing elsewhere. I would advise taking time to enjoy some of the other trails around it as well.

Easy super short trail down to the beach. There is a way to avoid climbing over a ton a huge drift trees by veering to the right. My teens enjoyed climbing among them. There is a a nice little creek to play in and lovely flat grey rocks everywhere. Very picturesque. Walk along the beach as far as you want to enjoy it!

This was probably my favorite hike on our trip to Olympic and Rainier. It is complicated--the internet gives many contradictory instructions. We went to the Makah Museum in Neah Bay first. We paid for museum admission and purchased a Shi Shi Beach permit to park on the reservation. The drive to the trailhead was a bit of a hunt, but we made it. The first two miles in the woods are easy. There are huge sections of mud, but there side trails to avoid the mud. The climb down the rooty bluff could be difficult for some, but I did not find it too challenging. We timed out trip to low tide so we could see the tide pools and walk out to the rocks. The tide chart was linked to the NPS website. Right away we found starfish and anemone in a tide pool! We walked all the way down to the point of the arches, which the internet led me to believe would be an additional two miles. We walked around and ate a snack and had a great time. Very few bugs. When we returned to our car approximately four hours later my kids iPhone pedometers said they'd walked closer to 10 miles. ? Could have been that we just bounced around moon among the rocks--or we just walked further than we thought. Beautiful beach with very few people on it and real sense of adventure.

We only walked as far as Carter Falls, as it was evening and we'd already hiked up to Panorama Point earlier in the day. The first part of the trail was the most interesting, following along the Nisqually River. Most of the time was spent hiking in the woods. Carter Falls is a little hidden in the woods, but all in all a lovely hike.

We started out early in the morning, when the ranger informed us that we could not go round trip on the trail because it was "closed" due to snow. We hiked to Panorama Point, but had to cross several snowfields to get there. My teenagers had no trouble with this, but I would have been better off with some extra grippers on my boots. Cloudy when we headed out--absolutely gorgeous on the way down. Quite busy, though we did go on a Sunday. The early morning portion included several climbers headed up to base camp.

Follows a rocky stream toward a cool cave. At one point the stream goes right through the rock. We visited in August at super low water level. Would be better with more water.

Nice short trail for northern Illinois. Pleasant and a little wild. Walked it in spring and enjoyed tracking down the song of frogs.

Enjoyable little path along through trees and along the river. I took my young children there many times for a brief sojourn into nature.
