    Meagan Rivera reviewed Handies Peak

Hiked June 15. A few small patches of snow that will not ruin your day, a million fat, hilarious marmots that will absolutely make your day, and a sketchy drive up Cinnamon Pass that'll give you a right good jostling. We parked about 1/2 mile away from the trailhead in our CR-V.

If you're concerned about smoke from the 416 fire, I have asthma and while we could smell the smoke in the morning (6am), it didn't bother me enough to notice.

I wouldn't call this easy (I'd put Bierstadt and Quandary above this in terms of difficulty though), but it's got a little bit of everything. American Basin is truly stunning. If you do this one, you won't regret it.

This was so gently graded that I couldn't believe we reached 1000 feet up when we did! Nice use of switchbacks. We were the first to summit both peaks on Saturday, but on the way down it became very crowded, as you'd expect.

Small bit of advice: had a surprising amount of mosquitoes and bees and flies at the top, as well as spiders. Bug spray wouldn't hurt.

This listing does NOT show the route to the top of Bald Mt. This stops at 13,000ft, by a gated area. There's still. whole mountain to climb after that -- and it is SO worth it if you can stomach several false summits.

We were caught off guard by how much longer the hike ended up (10.5 round trip, 3200 gain) and how much harder. The scramble is exhilarating and a great test of your agility (trust no rock!). We saw a mountain goat around the gate.

Meagan Rivera reviewed Devil's Head Lookout Trail to Fire Tower (DEC-APR ROAD CLOSED)

The view is great, but the trail has been loved to death. There's graffiti in places, and people have carved into the trees below the halfway point. The informational signs along the trail have been destroyed and occasionally painted over by bad artists advertising their instagrams. So much disrespect for a great historical site.

Way too crowded with so many off leash dogs. People very obviously not cleaning up after their dogs.

This is a great candidate for trails that could be shut down or severely restricted until people learn to respect our state, and each other.

This is a great little trail! The views at the summit are perfect. We had the summit to ourselves at 9am, but came across many others on the way down. Lots of unleashed dogs.

The snow was fairly well-packed, and we used microspikes, but didn't need poles.

This was a fun, quick hike that we paired with Chief Mountain. We didn't know about the shooting range, though, and that really sucked the fun out of it. The fire tower is very cool! There's some snow and icy patches as of 3/24, but nothing dangerous. I lost one of my Yak Trax on the way down without realizing it, hope someone can use it!

Tough, but worth it for the views.

The trail up wasn't well-defined after you branch off to head up to the summit. It wasn't crowded, but busier than you might expect given the reviews.

I'd love to do this one again as a peak to peak with Woods and Bard!

Cute trail, but a little crowded for my taste. I can see why -- this would be a good way to get used to higher elevation climbs. Nothing too strenuous, but nice views the whole way.

Beautiful! I'd agree this is moderate if you're used to the altitude. We continued on to Breckenridge Peak and hit Colorado Mines peak as well.

Started around 5:30am, on the way up there were only three other groups around. The hike to the base is easy and goes by quickly with a few muddy patches and creek crossings, and from there the trail fades away. There IS a trail somewhere in there, but it's not very visible until you're on your way back down.

There's a false summit, but it's not too discouraging. If you can make it to that, you can easily bag the rest! Pikas and chipmunks, as well as a ton of huge mountain crickets, mushrooms, and wildflowers.

We were back to the car at 11:15, but we are slow, leisurely hikers and took many breaks. I used my poles on the descent due to loose rock and sandy patches.

Honestly, skip the overwhelming crowd at Bierstadt and find a more peaceful hike just across the street!

This was a beautiful and fun hike! We didn't notice the cairns up Vasquez Peak, so we kind of made our own way up and down. The stroll through the forest in the beginning was awesome.

We were alone on the summit, and most of the trail. The forest section became a little crowded on our descent at 11:00am, but everyone was polite.

The trail is in great condition, with many mushrooms to be found along the way. Quiet, challenging hike. We were alone on the summit on a Saturday mid-morning.

First 1/4 is a series of switchbacks on a wide trail. Next 1/4 is in a gorgeous, lush forest. After that, you've reached a series of false summits leading to some scramble. The summit has lots of wildflowers and killer views.

Long dirt road starting from about 7 miles out.
