MCKAY STABEK reviewed Blue Lake Trail

This trail is perfect right now. We passed very few hikers and had the lake completely to ourselves. The hike itself is woody, quiet, lots of stream-jumping, a good combo of easy-but-long, with an absolutely stunning payoff. Tons of wildflowers and very green and sunny this time of year. Little patches of snow at the lake but it felt warm out. Had to take off our shoes and rinse in the mountain runoff due to some intense gravelly mud at the lake but the rest of the trail was dry. A few downed trees to climb under and over along the way.

Gorgeous. We will definitely be back soon.

Beautiful, breathtaking views, lush flora and a service road at the top create a well-earned reprieve. Overall, an easy/moderate effort.

Relatively short, moderate hike with the payoff of a great view and lots of interconnecting trails to mix it up. A favorite in Lory State Park.

Extremely varied, averaging toward moderate. A bit scary at times if you're afraid of heights or get vertigo but completely worth it. Gorgeous flora and breathtaking views. A new favorite in Lory.

Meadows trail is deceptively difficult and increases in altitude substantially before plateauing out in front of Greyrock. Lots of sheer drop-offs. Loop itself took us about 5.5 hours but we're slow and stop often. Varied, beautiful, difficult. I would not recommend this for beginning hikers, dogs, or kids. Gorgeous views. Bring your camera!
