I liked the variety of terrain around this trail, but was unprepared for the bleakness of the burn scarring. I went up the east trail at dawn, in frosty shade, which gave me the meadow trail leg in the warm midmorning sun as the wind picked up. Awesome. The cairns on Greyrock, along with signposts, are critical. I still lost the trail at one point and crossed a highly exposed face that was unnecessarily risky. Definitely would do this again, starting at daybreak or earlier.

Really cool rocks and rock formations. Nice trail. Vultures nesting and looking great on dead trees. On a sunny weekend afternoon there were lots of people around the southern parts and the connecting trails, and too much litter and dog poop on those busier parts of the trail for it to be fully awesome.

This is an easy hike with stairs. Optional rock scramble, on a piece of interestingly varied geology. At this time of year the scrub oak bears a hearty crop of plastic bags, flapping and lifeless. The omnipresent sights and sound of traffic and parked cars and little boxes made of ticky tacky smothered the natural beauty of this place. Recommended if you're a tourist. If you're a traveler, skip it.

Hiked this on a Monday in late January, just boots. Packed snow almost all the way to the lake, then loose snow at least 3 ft. deep for the last half mile and all around the lake. Ultra windy. Clearly a busy trail on weekends.

Starting before sunrise on Feb 18, it took me 2 hours to get to within 200 m of the top. It's very exposed, but starting so early meant I was. in shade. until I got back near the bottom. The views near and far are extraordinary and because the footing is unstable (rocks, pebbles, sand, slick rock) and I was hiking solo, I stopped often to ogle. Don't rush this trail. Boat sounds carry, so getting out early, you have the quiet of water, birds, and wind before the internal combustion engines harsh the mellow of the river bend.

I did the north east and northwest sections on 2/16 in the late afternoon and 2/17 in the morning, using microspikes for parts of both. Great minimalist trail, with sketchy shoring up by the falls on the northeast section. Seems that some people go hors piste there which disrupts the integrity of the hillside. Stay on the trail. At the bridge past Henn's overlook on the west side, the snow was too deep and unbroken for me to continue w/o snowshoes or any knowledge of where the trail lay. I'll do it again when I have enough time to do the whole loop.
Pro tip: get a map of the trail from the visitor center in town, and they might give you updated trail condition info.

Beautiful and extremely icy in several stretches yesterday. Poles &/or microspikes would have been helpful, but going on hands & knees worked fine. (The stretches were generally
