This is a beautiful trail and quite a workout. Great way to start the new year.

This is a beautiful area to hike. The trail is marked along the way and is generally well established. There is a bit of scrambling here and there. While we were there, there were not many other hikers. We did encounter some snakes so watch your step. Also, we did hear a bear not too far off of the trail at one point, so stay alert and stay on the trail.

We did this trail today for the second time. The grade is fine and the trail is easy to follow. We prefer to follow the PCT a bit longer than this map suggests, but we still end up at the junction with the fire road that takes us to the top.

My wife and I had come here to go trail running/hiking on Sunday July 30, 2017. The last .88 miles is SUPER steep. We were about 1/4 the way up that last bit and my wife had a seizure. I managed to catch her head when she fell back and her CamelBak padder her back, so she didn't get injured. It was pretty precarious trying to keep her from falling farther down the hill and dealing with post-ictal behavior.

There was a gentleman nearby who was running towards us to assist. I yelled to him to not run up to us. My wife has a history of epilepsy, and I didn't want this man to get his adrenaline pumping running up to us only to have us not really need help. I didn't mean to sound rude or ungrateful to the man, but I'm sure I did.

If he ever reads this, I hope he knows we do appreciate his willingness to help strangers. I've just dealt with this kind of thing enough that when a person there who may not be trained or accustomed to witnessing these types of events, they tend freak out a bit. In hindsight I shouldn't have sounded so blunt towards him. Regardless, I'm thankful for his willingness to help strangers.

After she finished seizing and started to come to, I was able to carry her back down to the main trail where it was flat. After she finished coming to we were able to walk the 2 miles back to the car. I had hoped we would run into the gentleman on the way down to say thank you, but we did not.

Regarding the trail itself, though.... it's beautiful, and pretty steep for running. You'll definitely get a workout.

My wife and I went to Ireland just for this trail. We were able to complete it in 7 days, staying at B&Bs each night along the way. We took the path from South to North, however, starting our trek in Clonegal and ending at Marlay Park in Dublin. I am glad we took this direction, as it made the trail get more interesting the farther we got in. The southern section of the trail is mostly farm land with trails through pine woods. There are quite a few stretches where we were walking on roads with cars periodically whizzing past us. In my opinion, this was the best way to experience a new country; walking through it. The countryside is gorgeous, as are the wooded areas. We did not see too many other walkers until we got near Glendalough, so that was nice as well. I do think I assumed it was going to be easier than it was. Some of the uphill stretches are much more steep than some of the mountain hikes near Los Angeles. Also, we carried all of our items in our packs, and if I could do it over again, I would have brought less clothing. I would have brought maybe 2 outfits of athletic materials that I could wash in the sink and dry overnight. My pack was about 30lb, and after 12-13 miles each day, it got pretty cumbersome.

This hike took us about 5 hours round trip. There were a couple of points where we had to negotiate over/under some very large trees that had fallen across the trail. There was also still a few patches of snow here and there that had packed into some pretty slippery ice. Just be careful and wear good boots and you should be fine. This trail must have been gorgeous before the fire that tore threw there in 2009.

Great hike. The path was a little squirrely here and there from the recent rains, but it was still a nice hike. I can't imagine this will be open for vehicles any time soon. A lot of the road, particularly near the trail-head seems beyond the capability of most 4x4s.

Very green right now due to the recent rains. There was a bit of slippery terrain, but overall it is a moderate hiking area.

This was a beautiful trail, for sure. The farther up the trail, the more obstructions you have to watch out for, though. If all you want to see is the impressive waterfall, then your hike in will be pretty short, but be prepared to climb down some pretty steep cliffsides if you want more than a distant view. Once you pass the falls, the trail gets progressively more difficult to recognize and traverse. There are a bunch of fallen trees blocking the path. We were not able to complete it. We were short by about 1 mile as it was no longer safe to continue. It was great exploring, though.

Great hike. It is worth noting that the descent down from Parker Mesa is pretty perilous in some spots, and generally steep. There was also a point at which we were unsure where the trail was. This section of trail, though, is surely a beautiful sight.
