    I do love Low Gap!
As per usual it was absolutely beautiful! There weren't many people on the trail despite being 77 degrees and dry.
The only downside on this hike was the spider webs... the west side of the loop that runs parallel to the road was littered with spider webs. Even after using a stick to try and rid them I still easily wore over 40 spider webs... I found 3 spiders crawling on my arms (so who knows how many were on me that I didn't see).
Still, it is the best hike in central Indiana. I still highly recommend it!

This is an amazing trail! We hiked it on 2/12/17 on an unseasonably warm day, it was absolutely gorgeous!
A couple warnings. Due to a detour it was 10.9 miles not the 10.1 shown at the trail head. And the only reason this didn't get a 5 star rating is due to a section of maybe a half mile or so aptly named "Mud City"... it was brutal! It had rained the day before we went out and the mud made that half mile feel more like 3 miles... I wore my trail runners instead of my hiking boots and it still felt like I had 10 lbs weights on each ankle... and I almost lost a shoe about a half dozen times. Absolutely brutal!!!
Despite Mud City, this may be my favorite trail in Indiana. The lake in the middle of the loop, Bryant Creek Lake, is stunning. I wish they allowed camping on this trail, it would be a nice place to spend a weekend.
I love this trail and would highly recommend it. More so if it is dry due to Mud City, but even as is, I cannot wait to get back out there.
    Happy hiking!

Two thirds of this trail is pretty great.
If you go south from the trail head you will go through the most beautiful parts of the trail in the first few miles. It is absolutely gorgeous and by far the most hiked section of the trail.
The "cavern" rock is breathtaking but again, it usually has several people in attendance anytime there is decent weather.
A couple miles farther down the trail is the "frog pond". On a 60 degree February day we came upon hundreds of frogs all "croaking" out their mating calls... it was confusing at first, sounded kind of like a damaged car engine as we came up the hill.
Once you cross to the east side of a paved road you enter into the "back country" there is addition parking here and some great areas to camp. There are a dozen or so campsites along a stream within a half mile or so if the road. If you continue up the steepest climb of the trail and make the turn north and then west again you will come upon another half dozen or so stream side campsites. I would recommend these sites for anyone looking to get away from the louder "car campers" that frequent the campsites closer to the road.
Another mile or so will bring you to an old service road that is over grown and is used as a trail now. This is the beginning of the relatively boring section of the trail. It leads up to a gravel trail. Both the service road and gravel path are fairly flat and fairly straight. Combined they run mostly west and are about three miles. Once the trail turns south again it is back to a hike in the woods, but it runs along the side of the road. This is the last leg of the trail.
Despite the third of the trail that is somewhat boring, I still LOVE this trail. It is beautiful and challenging enough to be rewarding to finish.
    I highly recommend this trail!
    Happy hiking!
