Planned to hike Hidden Canyon but on the shuttle bus I learned that it had been closed that morning due to flash flood damage. I was a little short on time but decided to try to get to Observation Point with enough time to get back down and get back to the house by lunch. I’m so glad I did. What an amazing hike. Starts out steep up some switchbacks and then enters a slot canyon. Then there are more switchbacks and the trail wraps around the cliffs. There are a few more switchbacks and then the trail pretty much straightens our until the end. The views up top are stunning.

Great hike up. It challenged the kids a little and the payoff of views at the end were wonderful.

Fun outing with the kids. Didn’t enter the narrows due to flood probability. Would love to come back with better conditions and let the kids play in the river.

Due to flood damage we were only able to hike the lower emerald pool. Not a bad hike but nothing overly special either. I’m sure it would have been a much better hike if we had access to the middle and upper pools.

We chose this trail on the chance to see a moose and because the weather was better on the west side of the park this day. When we arrived at the park I took my girls to that bathroom and after exiting the restrooms we see a startled moose running by us in the parking lot. We hiked to big meadows without seeing another moose, but luckily on the way back in one of the smaller meadows we spotted a mamma moose and her baby. Wow, what a great hike. A lot of mosquitos so bring bug repellant.

Very busy due to the popularity, but an amazingly scenic hike. Nymph, Dream, and Emerald Lakes are all beautiful. My 8 and 5 year olds handled the hike just fine.

What an epic hike. Truly a bucket list worthy adventure. We started at 0400 to make sure we got a parking spot at the trailhead parking lot near Happy Isles. We jumped on the JMT to avoid the mist from Vernal Falls since it was so early. We then cut down to the mist trail just past emerald pool. Then we proceeded to Half Dome Trail. We had a slower joker with us so there was a lot of stopping to wait. Once we reached the sub dome we showed our permit and IDs to the ranger and headed up. The sub dome was much cooler than I anticipated. If that was the end of the hike it would have made for a great day, but luckily we still had the cables. Wow! I really underestimated the cables. In the picture the cables look like a gradual incline up the curve of the dome. It starts out as that, but the middle gets quite vertical. I brought along Atlas 300 gloves I got at Ace Hardware and they were wonderful; I didn’t slip once. Reaching the top was amazing. We posed for the obligatory phot on the diving board and hung out for a while. I thought going down the cables would be challenging but it really wasn’t. On our way down we stayed on the mist trail to see the waterfalls. The whole day was an amazing experience and my favorite hike to date.

Great hike. Not real steep at any location but a steady climb all the way. The views at the top are incredible, big bear lake, San Jacinto, and Old Greyback. Had a blast, but the last mile coming off the mountain was tough after I rolled an ankle, just glad it wasn’t higher up.

Awesome adventure with my kiddos. We went through the slot canyon and mushroom caves twice. The rest of the trail is flat but the lower portion has nice views of the salt marsh.
