All three mountains have incredible views, and the trail itself is well maintained.

This is a beautiful loop through many ecosystems. But towards the river it’s impossible to stay on / find the trail. Some ranger yelled at us for “trespassing” on the monument, as if we wanted to be bushwhacking!

Great hike, especially in the winter. Nice trail, amazing views, three high peaks, and it only takes about 6 hours.

Mary Zajaczka reviewed Mount Marshall via the Calamity Brook Trail

This is a four star winter hike, because the Herbert Brook and Upper Works region are just so magical in the snow. The trail itself is icy and difficult to follow in parts. If you look around a bit on the top, there is a rocky outcropping with nice views.

Mary Zajaczka reviewed Mount Redfield and Cliff Mountain Trail

This is a really, really wet trail, complete with mud ice if you hit it in the wrong season. The final push up Cliff is a steep scramble with slimy rocks, and of course, no views.

Mary Zajaczka reviewed Redfield and Cliff via Upper Works

This is a fantastic winter hike. Through the flowed lands and up the Calamity Brook is fast and easy atop the packed snow. The scenery is really unique from the rest of the high peaks. Climbing up Redfield is definitely a challenge, but worth it — there are some nice views just beyond the summit. It took us about 10.5 hours to just do Redfield; with Cliff it would have been over 12. So a long day!

Nice, peaceful hike. Very gentle. Combined with Graham for a 4 hour trip. Great hike, great trail.

Willard's Way is the only way to do Allen! Dry feet, a little bushwhacking; what could be better???

It's a myth that Allen has no views! There are certainly some vantage points along the trail and just beyond the summit. The newly opened logging roads are easy as cake, though the final ascent is steep and slippery. It's a long day, with beautiful flowers and sore feet.

These mountains are MUDDY. Nice selection of lean tos and campsites.

Mary Zajaczka reviewed Santanoni Range - Panther, Santanoni, Couchsachraga Peaks

In late July this hike was muddy but less muddy than we expected. Views from Santanoni and Panther are nice. It took us 12.5 hours RT, and Couch (that dismal mountain) took 3 hours RT from the junction. Though we hiked Santanoni first, I think it's best done with Panther first, as the hike down Santanoni is mellower. A few scrambles but nothing too difficult. Be prepared for very wet feet.

Some of the bushwhack trails can be a little tricky to find, especially because they don't exactly match up with some of the maps.
