Mark Wilson reviewed Katie Jackson Park Yellow, Black, and Blue Loop

Well-maintained, well-marked trail that's good for a one-hour walk. You'll encounter lots of cyclists, since a good part of the trail is a Dorba trail. But it's actually not as crowded as I would have expected (we walked here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon).

Nice trail for a pleasant stroll. Not challenging at all, since much of it is paved. Plenty of nice scenery, and quite a bit of wildlife if you go early in the morning or late in the evening.

Just a paved trail that parallels the river in some spots and the flood plain in others. OK for a leisurely stroll.

Cool place with great views. Main trails are very wide and easy, but there are spots where the trail crosses wide swaths of granite where the trail isn't well marked. Due to recent flooding, we were unable to hike one segment of the loop, and had to take a trail through a canyon. This trail was quite rocky and rough.

Great trail with stunning views and plenty of contour. Three caveats: 1. You will get your feet wet crossing the stream in several places. 2. There are long stretches with no shade, so it can get brutally hot. We baked here in early November. And 3: it is crowded here in the fall, even during the week. That said, we really enjoyed this hike. Took us 3 hours.

I would rate this 4 stars as a trail but 5 for the overall experience. As others have said, the trail itself is rocky and often devoid of shade. But it's a short hike to the falls, which are absolutely worth a visit. Just bring lots of water and wear a hat during the summer, and you'll be fine.

There are several trails in the park that aren't shown on Alltrails, many of which intersect with this one. I actually prefer these trails to the outer loop, as these tend to have more shade. Overall, this is a great place for a long hike,

Nice trail, not too demanding. Lots of long stretches without shade, which was an issue when we hiked on a hot afternoon.

I've been biking on this trail for over 10 years, and have never had an incident other than being stared at by a coyote and almost running over a snake. That said, I simply wouldn't walk on this trail alone. As others have said, the trail passes through some fairly isolated areas where you're liable to encounter some sketchy people living under bridges and what-not. I still bike it from time to time, because it's easier to find another cyclist to keep in view while traversing the sketchy areas. This would be a nice trail without all the negatives from being in a large urban area, such as trash, graffiti, and potential for crime.

This is a very easy paved loop around the lake. It can get very busy at times, but as a result it tends to be much safer than the White Rock Creek trail which adjoins it (that trail passes through some sketchy and fairly isolated areas). It's a nice trail for biking or walking, with lots of nice scenery. One interesting tid-bit: On the southeast side of the lake, maybe a mile north / northwest of the spillway and near the boat house / pump station, you might see and/or hear some feral parakeets in the trees.

A unique experience. Navigating all those steps can be challenging, but the trail afterward is pretty tame. And the falls themselves are stunning.

Nice place for a leisurely walk, but this trail is far from being "moderate." It's just a pleasant gravel trail that meanders through some thick foliage adjacent to a creek. We enjoy walking our dog here.

This is a prime spot for people to have their portraits taken, so it can get rather crowded at times. Also, during the summer and late fall it can smell rancid in certain spots, possibly because of a sewer line in the area.

We ended up coming here due to Enchanted Rock being overcrowded, and were pleasantly surprised. The scenery is beautiful and highly varied, and the trail has enough contour to provide a decent workout. It's rocky in places, so wear appropriate shoes and bring your trekking poles if you have them.

A good alternative to the very busy Enchanted Rock trails.

This trail is easier than the Cedar Brake Trail but does have one fairly steep incline. I avoid this trail on busier days, since most hikers tend to stay on this trail instead of veering off onto one of the adjacent trails. There are also a lot of dogs on this trail, occasionally one off leash. But no bikers!

During the summer check out the red flowering plants directly to the right of the restrooms before entering the trail area. You'll see lots of hummingbirds.

This trail is a good alternative to a walk around the block. We walk here on days when local unpaved trails are muddy. Did see a bobcat on the trail, and occasionally see salamanders on the bridges. Parking can be a challenge in the lot at Renner and 75 due to the small number of spaces.

Amazing trail. Although rated moderate, this trail is much more challenging than the nearby Eisenhower State Park trail, which is also rated as moderate. We hiked this trail during the Fall, and had occasional trouble with deep leaves on some of the steeper inclines. I would suggest bringing your trekking poles if you have them. And finally, when we visited around Thanksgiving 2017, the camping area was closed. We were forced to park near the boat launch and walk a half mile to the trailhead. No big deal, since we were able to use the mapping feature in Alltrails to find the trailhead. One final word of warning: The toilets adjacent to the boat dock are really, really gross!

Nice and secluded. Didn’t see another hiker despite being there the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The trail map you receive at the state park office says there is a nice scenic overlook; you should know that the overlook is roughly 2 miles in.

You will probably see a lot of ground that looks disturbed, as if somebody has tilled it. That's actually where wild hogs have been digging for food. There must be a lot of them in the area.

    Overall a nice hike.

Nice, fairly easy trail in a picturesque setting. The trail includes a few wooden bridges that cross parts of the lake. The best thing about this trail for us is that it's quiet and relatively isolated. Just a nice trail for burning off some stress.
