Maria Gumpal reviewed Rainy Lake Trail

I think the reward for the this hike is extremely high for how easy it is. The trail is wide, easy and not very long at all. You pass through streams and a nice waterfall.

We went Forth of July weekend while the snow was all melting and it made the lake glorious. Waterfalls were cascading down the mountainside with mighty roars.

I hope that the park service extends the viewing platform in the future over to the left a bit. It is pretty small and can get pretty cramped quickly.

Great Hike with gorgeous views. Park at Juniper Campground. If you walk though the campground, you will start at the deer flat trail head, which has a bunch of ups and downs in the beginning, and a bunch of steep climbs 3/4 of the way to the summit. Once you get to the top, you have a fast descent back to the parking lot.

If you go via the Juniper Trail at the immediate right of the parking lot, you'll have a quick steep climb to the top, with a long, slow decent, and then the various ups and downs.

I really liked this hike. Some of the steep climbs are pretty rough, so you better be in shape!

The best hike in Northern CA, and one of my favorite hikes of all time. If you are in good shape, it shouldn't be a problem, but you should definitely be prepared. Wear good hiking shoes as the trail is full of rocks. You even have to do some lightweight mountaineering at the end.

For the love of God, start this trail early. We arrived at 9am on a Saturday and the parking lot was filled with people. The trail is pretty narrow at points, so it was very annoying when you spend lots of time leap-frogging over people. If I knew, I would have tried getting there even earlier.

The scenery is absolutely breaktaking, and the reward at the end is the best that I've seen yet. You must make it to the highest point of the summit to see a 360 degree view of the Tahoe area. It's incredible and an almost religious experience.

This was my favorite hike in all of Lassen National Park. It is pretty difficult, but not very long. You are basically walking over tiny bits of loose gravel and it really feels like you are walking on sand. When you get to the actual volcano, it doesn't look very high or difficult at first, but the incline is so steep, and the ground is so loose that it becomes very hard, very quickly. Despite this, the view at the top is incredible. For one thing, there is is badass giant crater staring at your, and it was the first time in my life that I've ever seen one up close and personal. The painted dunes below you are breathtaking, and the fantastic lava beds that are behind them are soooo awesome. They really show you the destructive nature of a volcano. It was like looking at geological history right in the face. I LOVED this hike. Everyone should do it!

Very, very, very COOL. Unlike anything I've ever seen. Definitely something that should not be missed at Lassen .

Except for one steep incline, an easy hike. The views up top are nice, but I don't think necessarily amazing. Its a nice way to get away from the city though. Expect lots of students trail running. The parking lot is also pretty small, so get there early.

Got to see lots of wildlife along the river but there wasn't anything else that was very exciting for the most part. The best part was actually the visitors center where they had a bunch of animals found in the area and an educational center. Don't miss is.

Moderate to challenging hike. The parking lot is small so get there early. The trail up top is rather narrow, so I was a bit scared. One slip and down you go, lol. Luckily, my group was all ok and got to see a nice view of Lassen Peak in the near distance. There was also lots of pretty wildflowers and interesting moss on the trees to see during the hike. Saw a couple of deer too.

If you park at the end of Butcher Road you can avoid paying the Parking fee at the park. The hike from here to the communication tower is about 5 miles and is a gradual incline all the way up. It's a nice hike if you want to do something not too difficult or long.

This has got to be one of my most favorite hikes in Northern CA. The length of the trip is rather long at 8 miles, but there is just a light amount of incline throughout it. It's not too hard, but you still feel like you accomplished something and got a good amount of exercise.

What's great about it is that there is so much change of scenery throughout the trail. You have forest with different types of trees, areas with strange prehistoric looking plants, ocean coastal views, 2 cute lakes, and cool tunnel groves. The waterfalls at the end are spectacular.

Tips: There is a lot of poison oak on this trail, and in certain places (esp the end) is completely unavoidable. For the love of god, wear long pants and sleeves. I saw people in tank tops and shorts brush by poison oak in parts of the narrow trail at the end and cringed.

Also, wear hiking shoes for the decent down to the beach. The rocks are eroding and are very slippery. The climb down is somewhat dangerous, but it helps to have good shoes.

Loved the red trees that surrounded this hike. Did not love the poison oak, so watch out. The bridge views were beautiful.

Great hike. Difficult with the steady constant incline, but short. A fabulous way to get to hike within city limits. I want to do this every year.

Parking is a nightmare at the Stanford entrance. prepare to walk a great distance just to get to the beginning of the trail head.
