This is a great conditioning trail for early season since it dries out early. However, I wouldn’t bother hiking it other than that. It’s basically and endless stairclimber, very steep and unrelenting the whole way.

The views are decent but for the same amount of work I’d prefer to be much more “in” the mountains than just looking at them from afar. It’s basically next to the real peaks so you’re putting in lots of burn for views that aren’t as incredible as you could get elsewhere.

Yes, I still do it every spring to start getting back into hiking shape but beyond that I’d say you can murder your thighs elsewhere for a bit more payoff.

Such an accessible summit. From the start to the finish, the trail is incredibly easy to follow. Beautiful viewpoints along the way (Harvey Pass and it’s wildflowers were a high point). The summit push feels a bit never ending, however with only one short section of somewhat hands-on, it’s minimally technical as far as summits go. Great views all around once you’re out of the forest.

However, if you’re coming from the east, don’t miss the left exit to the trailhead. It’s just pass the blue signage, however since the turn isn’t marked we drove past it the first time.

All around great summit, if you’re down for a solid full day (took us 6.5 hours and we were hauling ass) I highly recommend.

Very quick and easy up to the lake. Great views for relatively little effort. With no breaks I reached the lake in 35 minutes, and while I’m a fast hiker it would be easy for most to get up there. Trail is simple to follow. You can go up the cirque behind the lake to make more of a day of it, but it’s perfect if you’re short on time but still want great scenery.

Snowed in deep at the trail split with Sentinel Pass as of the last weekend of May. I wouldn’t attempt it until there’s been some solid good weather in the area as you won’t make it much further than the switchbacks at the moment.

Attempted both this and Eiffel Lake the last weekend of May. Both are snowed in deep at the trail split. I wouldn’t attempt until there’s been some solid good weather up there. All switchbacks, no view at the moment.
