Lindsay Finnell reviewed Blue Lake Trail

Tried to make it to the lake a few weeks ago but lost my way in the snow. Had to backtrack and camp out at a lower elevation - still a pleasant hike and the most isolation I’ve had in Colorado yet

Did this a month ago when there was still snow on the ground - it kicked my butt but the payout was fantastic

A beautiful loop, I recommend you take a lunch and hang out on some rocks to really enjoy it. Saw hundreds of flowering opuntia. This was fun to hike but I’ll have to bring a bike next time bc it looks like a mtn biker’s dream!

Was lucky enough to nab a spot in glacier gorge for the night. The sunset from the big granite expanse above the lake? Incredible. DO THIS TRAIL

Absolutely stunning trail, did this solo in a few hours last summer. The lake itself is beautiful and would be a great standalone, but then you start climbing and end up with unbeatable 360 views. I've hiked all over the country and this is simply one of the best day hikes.

Thanks to the person below who suggested bringing a hammock to hang out on top - I did and it was fantastic! Don't get caught up in the AllTrails rating, this hike is really not too difficult aside from a couple hundred feet up to the top. Lory State Park even rates it as moderate. The view from the top is stunning on both sides, and the wildflowers all the way up blew my mind - took timber trail to make a loop headed west and saw spotted coralroot orchids, irises, columbine, and more all along the backside of the hill. Gorgeous, peaceful hike, will definitely have to come back!
