paul boysen reviewed Big Rock from Redwood Highway

Not easy like marked I would rate this as hard do not attempt unless you are a true hiker.
Lots of exposed sunlight bring sunscreen and lots of water.
If you are looking for a brutal workout this is the trail for you.
It’s about 2 hours up to the antenna towers mostly up hill the entire time.

paul boysen reviewed Hood Mountain Trail to Panoramic Ranch Trail Loop [CLOSED]

I would rate this more moderate than hard there are a couple steep sections.
There is also a creek crossing, I am not sure about the rainy season? The pond trail section is closed but easy to bypass it.
Overall a super nice trail, I measured it almost 8 miles of beauty.
You can see San Francisco and the bay bridge from gunsight rock.

paul boysen reviewed Kent Woodlands to Mt. Tam East Peak

This is now one of my favorite hikes, the views on the way up are incredible, the hike itself isn’t that difficult other than rocks the entire trip. Very very private, only a few cyclists passed me near the top.
Parking is a bit sketchy, the start of the trail is a bit steep so don’t get discouraged, the steepness ends quickly.
If you like peaceful hiking this is the one for you

paul boysen reviewed East Ridge and Pool Ridge Loop Trail

One of the most beautiful trails, I started in the free parking lot outside of the park behind the bathrooms, it was a steady up hill but not to to bad but a great workout with few people on the trail, but the way down is where the beauty of the trail comes into view.

There are lots of trails off the main trail so keep a close eye on your map.
When you get to the top you have 5 different choices but the AllTrails map only shows 3.
I will return here is was fun

paul boysen reviewed Dipsea Trail from Muir Woods to Stinson Beach

I took this trail on a holiday weekend, the trails were packed with people.
It was foggy so I missed the views but the trail was beautiful but the hike is brutal coming up from Stinson.
Not a lot of stairs A REAL LOT OF STAIRS!!
I was glad when I was near the top it kinda levels off and you go across the ridge.

I stopped at the top and met some nice people that suggested I take the Matt Davis trail back so I did it was worth it not having to go down all those stairs with great scenery and put me 1 block from-the trailhead at Stinson where I parked

The Matt Davis trail has a few pretty hairy spots that could get ugly if not being extra careful

It was a great day over all and look forward to going back to explore other trails on MT Tam

EDIT I consider myself an average hiker, that night and the next day my legs are really sore

paul boysen reviewed Mount Wittenberg Trail

Took the trail on a Saturday, it was a fairly busy, nice uphill climb, not too difficult.
I took the meadow trail back down, it was a easy loop even a non hiker could probably handle it.

I walked this trail on a weekday out to the ocean, it is easy just like all trails said but once you get out to the ocean it’s like you are the only one on the beach, you can go miles and miles north or south with no other people around, only birds and crabs.

paul boysen reviewed Foothill Regional Park Loop Trail

Hiked this on a Saturday, very very popular trail must have been 40+ people in the park.
Lots of side trails to add extra miles onto the hike.
    Easy even for the kids.
Saw a few fishermen in the ponds as I passed, all around good trail.

paul boysen reviewed Taylor Mountain: Western to Eastern Route

I hiked this trail on a Saturday, it was very very busy, over 20 people hiking, no shade and lots of side trails, and kinda easy to get turned around with all the trail intersections.
    But definitely a good workout.

paul boysen reviewed Bolinas Ridge Trail

Nice ride, I attempted it for the first time on my road bike, and was easy even for a non experienced rider like myself.
A group of hardcore riders passed me and were shocked the Someone would attempt the trail on that type of bicycle so it must not be too difficult.

I didn’t go to the end, I turned off on Shafter grade to visit the dam and it was really really steep with loose rocks but doable with f/b disk brakes.
    Over all well worth it.

Great trail beautiful redwood trees all around, little signs around telling the history of the park. I even had a coyote run 15 feet past me on the trail. Good for kids also.

paul boysen reviewed South Lake Trail to Skaggs Springs Vista

I took this trail in a Saturday pretty private only 1 group of hikers passed me. The first part of the trail is pretty rough lots of loose rocks and loose dirt, kinda like a 4 wheel drive or horseback trail but after the first mile or so it turns into a normal hiking trail.
To get to the water it’s an extra mile but when you do get make it to the bottom there are nice picnic tables to relax under, even camping if you wish to.

paul boysen reviewed North Slope Sonoma Mountain Trail

Another great trail lots of shade well maintained. And not many people other than a couple people riding bikes, very peaceful hike,
Internet almost the whole trail until you get to across to Jack London state park.
If you continue a little past the end of this trail you get to a short “park summit” trail this is the highlight of the park and should not be missed.

paul boysen reviewed Miwok to Upper Mt Burdell Trail

This is a long winding trail that I took by mistake, I did not see another human the whole trip very peaceful (and on a Saturday) lots of small critters running around and a few good views. I would not attempt this trail in the rainy season or on a bike. luckily I found a short cut at the picnic benches at the top on the way back that saved me well over an hour.

paul boysen reviewed Bear Valley Trail To Coastal Trail

This trail is one of my favorites not to much hills, nice smooth stroller accessible all the way to Kelham beach To access the beach stay to the right when you meet the coast trail and go down when you get to the giant tree. you can't miss it.
Bring extra water. it's long but not too difficult.
    Have fun
