Leslie Reeder III reviewed Tawas Point Via Sandy Hook Nature Trail

Mid July. Hiked trail just after tour of the lighthouse ( cool and interesting by the way), the trail was easy for most of it but there was one section that was so overgrown that I felt I needed a machete to get through. Some areas were washed out. The views of the lake were beautiful however. Did not see much wild life other than a few species of frogs and birds. Decent trip.

Leslie Reeder III reviewed Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park Trail

You know there are a few neg reviews...., but what it’s worth, it’s all opinion. I my self have been here twice once during a red flag day and once on the yellow flag. Some reviews are right if it’s during the “swim” season, then it’s probably not going to be as beautiful because there are a ton of people swimming through the natural slides of shit ins. However during the rainy or off season this park is gorgeous! Roaring waters, the smell of spruce and pine, greenish blue waters, a waterfall, traverse landscape...... I totally loved the shut ins during the red flag day. It was before the stores opened and tourist flooded it. We were one of about three couples there and it was peaceful and beautiful. I agree it should probably be rated a mild moderate. Probably not to good for kids in some places, but with a watchful eye should be ok.

I thought this trail was pretty cool. Visited it twice, 1st time didn’t have enough time to hike it fully which was a shame because the second time was very dry. The water fall was not a waterfall. It was supposed to be 135 ft waterfall. It was still beautiful country tho. Tough for someone less experienced I think. Lots of rock and elevation. 106 heat index when my group trekked it. Still it had a few areas to filter water and plenty of shade.

Once again it was a beautiful trail, however some of the inclines might make it to difficult for small children. The water fall it self can be accessed from the road so taking the whole trail isn’t necessary in that case. Waterfall is smaller but is just as beautiful as the larger ones.

Trail is beautiful and easy, stair cases and a beautiful view of the waterfall make this a treat to see. Easy for kids, so good as a family outing. Would see this again.

You know this is quite the jem for this area. If you didn’t know the area you could miss the trail. It is great for birding. Fairly easy, so ......decent for kids of walking age without to much monitoring or worry. There are some high cliffs and small caves to explore. Over all nice little trek.

I rate this trail a 3, mainly because the park is so littered. The up keep of the park is terrible. I tried to take some of the trash out but really it didn’t put a dent in it. However The natural bridge is an awesome geological site reminds me of the one in Kentucky just not as big or isolated. The trail was easy, as long as the water isn’t up which can block you from getting to it.

Moderate trail with lush vegetation, some parts have a moderate incline. The cave is a pretty cool spectacle to see. Lots of big trees and rock cliffs, Creeks, wild life are just a few things to see. Interesting would do it again in the winter to see what frozen sculptures nature has created.

Did this last year but it was in the dry part of the season. Trail was easy to hike and a great starter for kids. There was a waterfall at the end of it but just trickling due to lack of rainfall so suggest just after a good rain. Easy access trails from the campsite and close to other trail heads. Over all ‘ relaxing’.

We trekked this one today, the bottom running along the river was quite muddy and you found yourself doing the Fred Flintstone trying to maintain balance in several spots. Once you cross under the RR tracks and start your ascension on the staircase you find very spectacular views from the cliffs edge. Some of the trail crosses the lonewolf and white trails. Some areas rugged others moderate over all a nice trek. Only down fall was it was so busy you couldn’t find parking in some areas. You also literally had to give way to traffic in some areas on the trail due to hikers.

Very short easy trail. My girl friend and I trekked this when two of the main observation points were down with no access. We managed to find our way down to each fall tho. If you enjoy waterfalls this place is beautiful. If staircase is still out to main falls you will have to climb down as we did. Beautiful and worth it.

Longer and a little harder due to elevation but nothing to extreme, the trail drops down to the valley floor and walks part way along the creek. Woods offer large trees and huge grape vines. Nice trek especially in the early spring, when the leaves are just starting to form. Allows you to still see the terrain but still see green. Birds are a big part of this park and have many activities surrounding them. Chirping through out this trek makes it especially nice.

Nothing to exciting, kid friendly, educational on how land developed. Nice trek. They recently added metal plaques with addition info on plants, trees, animals and birds of the area, great for children’s education and introducing them to the outdoors.

Fun place to hike when you need a break from shopping or traffic. It does cost 5 bucks to walk the trails, but the have bird rescue there and have an Eagle, vulture, some hawks etc...you can check out before you start on the trail, easy walk, great for kids. wooden walk ways and mulched trails derived from deadfall. pretty cool for being the middle of town.

walked this two years ago in fall with my girlfriend....good memory because it literally "snowed leaves" on us. Crazy they just kept falling. It was quite neat and gave us something to remember. Trail was for most part easy with a few inclines. Saw a buck deer walk right up on us during a snack break. Forest has some dense areas some open, over all nice trek.

Did this at the beginning of the year while biking and running at the park, which by the way is great for....otherwise, Easy, great as a beginner to see if hiking is your thing. Great for kids because its short and most likely wont be asking, "Are we there yet!" , or "carry me I'm tired",lol

Not bad, it was also easy with rolling hills, some areas you could see the lake, nothing spectacular but if camping worth it as part of you day hikes
