There really isn’t a path it’s kind of all open and can climb up in any direction. If you start from Back O’ Beyond Rd. you cross a mini bridge from the parking lot and a dried up stream. If you come from Crescent moon trail on Verde Valley School Road it’s got an amazing guided trail to the base along side a beautiful stream and adds an extra 20/30 minutes to the climb; But again when you start your climb it’s all open. There is no shade until you reach the top. There is on very steep narrow climb to get to the next base of the mountain Once you get closer to the top then you can see a direct path to reach trails end. Trails end is as far as you can climb without rock climbing gear. There is a path to the right where everyone lines up to take pictures off the edge one at a time. It’s a skinny path to get there and everyone is very respectful.

My favorite hike with amazing views starting just at its base. Elevation is 2,195′ and peaks at 669 metres above sea level. This hike is best at sunrise or sunset, it is challenging , beautiful and a great accomplishment once at the top. To get to the top you must climb up ladders, chains and staples in the sides of rock. Along the way about 20 minutes you’ll reach the first set of metal ladders on the Lions Head hike. Instead of climbing the first ladder, along the sides you’ll see caves along the old hiking trail one famously known as Wally’s Cave a nice resting spot in the shade with stunning views. Continue up the mountain to the ultimate viewing area with a Lions head sign you can hang off of and other amazing looking points.
