Laura Rutherford reviewed Tuckerman Ravine Trail to Mount Washington

Wow, tough. Parked at 9am. Sign said lot full but we found a spot. Started out on the detour (bridge work at beginning of trail) pretty sure we were climbing sherburne ski trail. STEEP. muddy. Then the detour led us to the actual trail after .25 mile or so... Gradual incline, mostly rock. HOT DAY 7/4/18. Then another detour to more steep ski trail for what seems forever. Then you reach the hermit lake shelter and water 100yds past hut. Then, it’s just straight up from there!! Took us 5.5 hours to top. Many breaks, so hot out. Spent an hour or so at top, 3.5 hours down around 730pm. Would prefer a less crowded trail next time!

DAMN WHAT A WORKOUT! Absolutely excellent hike. Was nervous for this trail after reading reviews, but my boyfriend and I did not feel it was too bad on the way up. Steep, F*** YES. But fun, and once you get a about a 1/2 mile past the Beaver Brook Hut, it really flatens out, and the last push to the summit isn't bad at all. Not too windy at the top, and not crowded at all. We started at 12:45PM and finished up at 7:30. LOTS of breaks on way up. VERY slow on way down. My legs were really feeling it at the end i'll tell ya! Honestly, Hike was 3 days ago and i'm almost not sore anymore! Happy Hiking!

Short hike! Definitely steep in spots, but nice view for not much effort. Bluff itself is large. Quite a drop off if you walk out to the edge!

Went on Sunday before Memorial Day, and it was PACKED. Would not recommend. I did Balance Rock trail from the parking lot and connected to Old Indian Trail. It was cool to walk across 3 of the ski trails. At once point you cross a crosswalk along the auto road which was quite lame... and from there, the trail gets STEEP. I got caught up in quite a crowd of people on the steepest part. Not ideal. Also, very buggy and muddy. Overall, not my favorite hike, but for MA, not bad I guess...

Really great 2.5 mile loop. Perfect for a run. Some cool boardwalks, and some stops right on the lake. Lots of dogs :)

I live nearby so frequent this loop. There are shorter trail variations if you don't want to do the full 4 miles. Great area!

Have hiked this a few times. Definitely challenging depending what route you take. Quite steep in spots especially towards the top. Had a hard time finding a good trail back down. Sketch in spots going down 0 if rainy, I imagine it is quite challenging if you don't have good footwear. The view is certainly worth it though! Great view of lake Winni

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! For a Saturday around 11 am, it was not too crowded (think we were smart to go the weekend before memorial day weekend) I feel like this is a hidden gem within the White Mountains. The hike itself is quite easy, steadily incline the whole way. Mostly a rock path. Cool waterfall early on. Not much to look at on way up, but once you reach the top.... BREATHTAKING. We spent an hour just sitting at the top. Truly spectacular.

Can't believe I recently discovered this! Very easy, short hike with a great benefit. 360 degree views at the top. Mountains, ocean, Portsmouth. Great 2 hour excursion, and great for a picnic

Lovely at the beginning. Definitely a workout, but lots of small streams crossed, and small waterfalls all along the way. Made it to Lake Solitude which was out of this world. I hiked on a weekday alone and literally saw not one soul all the way to Lake Solitude. I was very much looking forward to the cliffs, however, got completely lost. I kept following the white trail what seemed to be miles, and then checked my location. I ended up heading about halfway down the Monadnock-Sunappee Greenway. I was super frusterated that I needed to turn around and retrace my steps but I then saw someone had painted "Scenic View" on a rock. I took the turn to at least get something positive out of my mistake. I think this could have been Lucia's Lookout? Honestly not sure.... I then noticed that the red paint continued, and someone had marked a trail down from the ledge that said "Trail to Mountain Road" which is where I parked! Instead of retracing my entire way back, I took the chance, and followed this mysterious red trail. THANK YOU TO WHOEVER MARKED IT. Although very steep in spots, and not technically a trail, I made it back down to mountain road. (Had to cross a sketch pond). I am thankful for this adventure, however would not necessarily recommend to anyone. I plan to revistit this summer to find the ledges, and actually reach the summit!!!

Laura Rutherford reviewed Wapack Trail/Marion Davis Trail

One of my favorites! Definitely take the Wapack up, and the Marion Davis down. Great views of Monadnock early on (not so much at the summit). I went on a weekday and literally saw 3 other people. Went more recently on a weekend, and it was busy, but not overwhelming. I was fortunate enough to see the Boston Skyline and snow covered Mount Washington both times! Fairly easy hike, and would absolutely recommend for new hikers!

Laura Rutherford reviewed Burlington Landlocked Forest Trail

This is a very large trail system. Although landlocked, you really do feel like you are deep in the forest (despite hearing the highway traffic in some areas). Hikers do need to take caution, as these trails are primarily used for mountain biking. I actually kept one headphone out so that I could hear anyone coming up behind me so I could step aside. I covered about 3-4 miles, and probably passed 8-10 bikers. Overall, a great, well marked trail with a lot of cool boardwalks, and trail variation. Can get buggy!
