Lance Nino reviewed Camelback Mountain via Echo Canyon Trail

As a local, I’ve climbed this trail many times in various conditions. First and foremost, it’s a serious hike and the most challenging in the area. Three or four very steep sections are present, and loose rocks and sand lurk especially during the descent. Do not run down this trail!

Bees are present on the trail, but in my experience, they will attack only if you’ve strayed far from the trail. It goes without saying to not stray from the trail. Multiple people die every year by getting stranded.

This trail can be hiked in any conditions, but between the months of April and September, don’t be out between 10am-6pm. The sun is too brutal. Bring double the water you think you’ll need. There is very little shade.

Parking can be a challenge in the Echo Canyon lot. If you don’t get there very early, there will be no spots. An alternative is to go to Arlington Rd off 44th st and hike around the camel’s head (1 mile to trailhead, moderate difficulty) Bring a stick to scare rattlesnakes.

I love this trail, and I hope you will love it too!
