Hiked this on 8-8-17. Epic hike. Fabulous scenery. Pictures don't do it justice. Bring sandals - lots of water crossings where getting wet is a real possibility - in one a certainty. In some parts the trail literally became a small creek you had to climb up. Trekking poles a must. The trail at the very top (the last 500 feet of elevation gain or so) was totally impassable due to snow. You can still summit via a pretty long scramble. Took me just under 14 hours. Started at 4 am. Drank 4 1/2 liters of water.

Great weather and good hike today! Trail in decent condition. Not very wet - but water was running in the creek pretty good! Great views! Nice workout!

Hiked El Cap twice on 1-6-17 - back to back. Per my Garmin, 22.7 miles, 7800 feet of elevation gain, 9 1/2 hours. A great training hike for Whitney later this year! Trail was a bit muddy but not too bad. Fun stuff!

Hiked this for the third time this year. 2 hours up and 2 hours down. Cold and a bit rainy. Trail was kinda washed out and very muddy - it had rained the day before. Great hike though. Will use this as a training hike for Whitney. In the spring, plan on climbing this twice (back to back) on the same day as a good training hike for Whitney (roughly equivalent to the total mileage and elevation gain of Whitney, but obviously not the high altitude).

Kurt Womack reviewed Painted Gorge-Carrizo Mountain Trail

Hiked Painted Gorge and climbed Corrizo Mountain today. 19.3 miles, over 2,300 feet of elevation gain, just over 7 hours. The gale force winds at the top made the summit a bit more exciting...although those same winds made the descent in a sandstorm less than fun. Incredible geologic formations and amazing views - check out the pics. Saw a piece of volcanic pumice the size of a small car! This hike is highly recommended!

Hiked the Agua Tibia Wilderness today, just east of Temecula. About 21 miles, nearly 4,000 feet in elevation gain, just over 7 hours. My longest hike yet in terms of distance. Went from desert chaparral, to oak forest, to pine forest. The Coulter Pines had pine cones as big as my head! Went through 4.5 liters of water. Trail was in mostly good shape, but there were some significant sections where you have to bushwhack. A number of sections you have to crawl under or over multiple fallen trees. Was planning on taking the small use trail to agua tibia peak but I must've missed it and didn't want to backtrack. I did the loop clockwise. A good hike!

All uphill and fairly steep to the peak on a paved road, but still good views along the way. Great views from the peak though. Conejos trail on the way back was much more scenic and easier on the feet, though a little rocky with a fair amount of scree. Good to see the forest making a comeback after the fires. Afterwards went to Julian for an awesome chicken pot pie dinner at rongranch (spelling ?) restaurant and some moms apple pie. Picked up dudleys fruit bars on the drive home.

Great, short hike. Strenuous enough so you feel like you "earned" the incredible 360 degree views at the top. Unbeatable views!!!

Kurt Womack reviewed Old Mount Baldy Trail

Good hike! A tough one to be sure. I've done san Gorgonio via Vivian creek and san Jacinto via Marion mountain, and this one, to me, was harder. My gps showed 13.6 miles, 5,820 feet in elevation gain, and took 7 1/2 hours to the summit and back. The trail is narrow in sections and a bit overgrown. Loose scree in the bottom half of the trail - easy to slip on the descent. Trekking poles a must. Went through a bit over 4 liters of water. Great views all the way! Bottom part of the trail is fairly exposed. The Mt Baldy visitor center parking lot was closed when I went (maybe because it was Columbus Day?). I parked a little way up the street on the side of the road. Anyhow, a good climb and great workout! The food at the Mt Baldy lodge is pretty good too!
